I've read things here and there that suggest a large head circumference in infancy is an ASD trait. I've always had an enormous head relative to my body size, and I'm wondering about others. Even now, I can wear children's sizes in clothing but require a men's extra large hat. I don't recall my exact measurement, but I believe my head is around 23.5" in circumference. I'm a 22-year-old female, and my oversized head has provided fodder for many a family joke.

Anyway, do you have a larger than average head?

Only metaphorically
I've never tried to measure my head size or compare it with the norm. I was once accused of having a small head, which made me feel a little insulted, but the accuser was probably just having a go at me....she also said that I was rather short. Luckily she was rather fat, so I managed to kill the conversation by saying that I'd like to talk about widths.....I nearly said "it's ironic that a fat bastard like you should poke fun at people with less noticeable deformities," but I'm too much of a gentleman.

I remember getting my head measured, but it wasn't because of my Asperger's. My mother had breast cancer and they wanted to know whether or not I was at risk so they measured the circumference of my head. I was told that my head was within standards and that I'm not as high of risk for breast cancer as I had originally thought.

At one point my son as an infant had a big head. With one visit he was 90th percentile in head, 60th in weight and not on the charts yet with height...so he was a short, fat kid with a big head.

He has since grown into it and is much more evenly proportioned.

Phrenology is fascinating. I have a slightly larger head than is normal, I think. I have a very lumpy, bumpy head.

My head is 22.5 inches in circ. My son (who is diagnosed with Autism) has a head circ of 22 inches. He is 4. He definitely has a big head, it's a lot bigger than the other kids in his class, though most of the other kids in his class are autistic, too.
In his medical file it lists him as having macrocephaly. Though, it's not overtly obvious, he's also just a big kid.

My head measures 23 inches. I also have a cute, round face. I'm also a big woman. which doesn't bother me. Not all women are meant to look like supermodels.

On certain jobs I go out on, I have to wear a hard hat , and they call me bottle top because the ' hat' looks like a bottle cap on a bottle

My head circumference is 24.8 ".

I have quite a big head, hats are usually tight. I don't know what the circumference is exactly.

i have always had a bobble-head- too damned big relative to the torso and top-heavy to boot, as though it were weighted on the top.

Found this:

Average head circumference:

Baby - 3 to 6 months
Head Circumference: 14" - 17 "

Baby 6 to 12 months
Head Circumference: 16" - 19 "

Toddler - preschooler (12 months - 3 years)
Head Circumference: 18" to 20 "

Child (3 - 10 years)
Head Circumference: 19" - 20 1/2"

Pre-teens and Teens
Head Circumference: 20 1/2" - 22"

Adult Woman
Head Circumference: 21.5" - 22.5"

Adult Man
Head Circumference: 23" - 24"

In photos my head when I was a toddler was large. I had a really high forehead. My circumference is about 22".
To measure it put the measuring tape slightly above your ears and wrap it around your head.

Huge head here. When I graduated high school, I had to get a cap (mortarboard) that was size 8.25, which corresponds to a 25.9" circumference. I need a 4-5XL motorcycle helmet.

There's plenty of research data out there to support the correlation too. But it's not just the circumference; it's also the "sphericity," or circularity. We aspies & auties tend to have enlarged brains overall (macrocephaly), but notably in the parietal lobes on the sides, where NT brains tend to be more narrow. We often appear to have wider heads because our skulls grow to match our wider brain sizes. You all might already know about Einstein's wide head, large circumference, and enlarged parietal lobes. He was one of us.
