I donate to the Vancouver Children's Hospital, so that mute kids on the spectrum can get computers that they can speak with.

Nothing. I just don't have any opportunity to do something for them although if I worked, I'd want to donate to some organisations. Anyway those who you are talking about, are as distant to me and having nothing to do with me as NT's, even more, I just don't identify with LFA people in any manner because the fact remains I don't have anything to do with them, this is the truth.

Applying for a doctoral position studying autistic language and lack of speech to hopefully be able to find information about the processes which are hindered in non-verbal autistic people.

I am a staff member of the Autism Education Center in Florida http://www.autismeducationcenter.net. I fall somewhere between high functioning and low functioning , so I can relate to both.

My IQ has tested in the top 2%, since I was 6, so MOST people (NT or otherwise) are distant to me.

As an Autistic, the people to whom I refer are VERY close to my heart, despite the fact that I 'work', in my own company and regularly make more in a month than most people make in a year.

But thanks for your comments and input, this is VERY helpful to me and answers much of what I was questioning.

Have a great day :D

Help yourself before you help others. As they say in the airplane video tapes, put the oxygen mask on yourself first so that you may save both yourself and your child.

That's my plan anyway...

If we are talking about people who cannot speak or advocate for themselves, how would you know you don't identify with them?

You 'sound' megalomaniacal ... and you have an actor playing a megalomaniacal psychopath as your avatar.

You just answered your own question - my life is so different than their is - I can speak and take care of myself so how can I identify with those whose life is so different? It's as if I, being a short sighter and needing glasses identified with the blind.

Some who cannot speak can take of themselves just fine. And just because someone cannot speak doesn't mean they don't think. How do you know that they don't think the way you do or share your opinions about certain topics?

My point is there are probably aspects of their life that you can identify with... you just choose not to.
