...that is one , I guess , " classic " Aspie " symptom " that I don't think describes me , I think I can imagine what someone's motive is/what s-he is trying to say/taying to say to whom...I think , in written things , I can , so to speak , " read between the lines " 8) :P as well...If Aspie-ness means " taking everything absolutely literally "/not being able to see a possible secondary meaning to something , I , at least , don't appear to have that... :o ?

As I've said before, I don't take everything literally and I can pick up on alternate intentions. However my ability to is a bit blunted in some situations and my interpretation of a situation might be slightly different than that of others. Not necessarily wrong, just different, which is probably because I use logic a lot more to navigate certain situations than others.

The problem with evaluating one's own abilities to read other people, for empathy, and the like, is that you can't tell whether you were right about any judgments you made. What test could you perform to evaluate these, given that you only know your own perception?

Some symptoms go away with age. That's about all I know.

You can ask for feedback. Of course not everyone will be honest, but I have found it helpful to test my perceptions by saying to people 'You look/seem a bit sad/annoyed/etc.' and sometimes they will say they are and sometimes they will explain what they are really feeling, and so I learn that way.
