I hate college???
I keep coming to this place for help and never get any; this is a last ditch effort.
I'm a biochemistry major, with (hopefully) 2 semesters left.
I knew college has been a disappointment, but it's not until recently that I realized I HATE it.
It is harder for me than it is for the average person because I find the social aspect so draining. I'm not talking about partying/friends, I gave that up a while ago. I mean group assignments, disscussion, presentations, projects, and even just sitting next to people knowing they're observing me. I can't believe it's percectly acceptable to stare at the person across from you when sitting in a group circle! I've retaken 3 classes because I was uncomfortable around the professors or students. I would be graduating this semester if it weren't for that. Ironically, I came to college excited about interacting with my intelligent peers, but to my dismay, I was still labeled as a weirdo, simply for being myself. People annoy me more now than ever before. And that's the last thing I need when I'm taking my hardest classes yet. I get very little reward from passing exams because I realized eventually how arbitrary the whole thing is. But I've already spent all this money and energy. Help??
What kind of help are you looking for? All you said was things that bothered you and that's it. But the things that bother you are things we cannot change, like other people and your feelings towards socializing. In fact, many of us share your feelings. Since you're almost done with school, just keep trekking and get it done. Then take some down time or something.
I'm confused, I just looked at your profile and you are NT? Or are you ASD because you're posting here..? If you have an official documented diagnosis of ASD you can have some of your social interaction cut down (no group work, presentations etc).. but your profile says NT so I'm not sure what we can do for you here besides the above advice??

I don't know, any help that would make me feel less miserable? It may not be possible, I'm not sure at this point.
What prompted this thread: I went to one of my chemistry courses and immediately hated it. The professor will take participation throughout the semester by calling on someone at random (by looking at the class roster) to answer a question. Wtf? So now I can't even go to class in peace but have to be on edge about speaking to a class of 100+?! Obviously I'm thinking about dropping the course, but no other chemistry class will fit my schedule. I actually liked the subject too. Why do people ruin everything??? Not directed at you, Soccer22.
No, I'm not NT. I've been diagnosed with social anxiety and depression, and I do receice student accommodations. I'm not autistic either, I found this site when googling various questions, and found I could relate to a lot of the threads. My condition, whatever it may be, is not autistic but has traits of it. Ok you were a little helpful, I'll talk to a counselor and see what they can do.

You edit your post after claiming "I was 0 help"? Little too slow on the draw there buddy.
That's one of the big deceptions about going to school about a subject you are interested in (The same thing also applies for jobs as well.). You get the impression that all the other students/peers in your classes of interest are also interested in the same subject as well and that it feels like you finally found the perfect little social eco system to fit into. Fortunately. When you finally get there. You soon find out that that's not true and it feels like someone stabbed you in the heart with a dagger. I've been there, done that, I know that feeling all too well. I guess as the old saying goes "The grass isn't greener on the other side.".

I really hate when teachers do that. I always had anxiety about being called on. I would drop the class. But first I'd talk to your counselor and tell them your anxieties. My step dad is a professor and a dean and you'd be surprised at how many accommodations his school gives to people over small things, and that's at a medical school with the best of the best students.

Are you going to arrest me for editing my post to be nicer? Please don't arrest me. And I wasn't slow. I was quick enough that the "edited" message did not display. You're just really quick, pal.

Yes, very true. I had way too high hopes, and college wouldn't have even met my lowest hope.

I feel like the professor had to go and mess up a perfectly good class by making it so stressful. I can't fathom attending class where I can be called on any second. I'll just end up skipping days, my participation grade being a 0, then missing material, then doing poorly on exams, then dropping the course. It's such a random requirement.

This is about the dozenth time I've seen you attack someone who was trying to help you.
If you do this IRL it's why you don't have friends.

Nope, I've made friends in college, I dumped them all because they annoyed me. I think it's funny you call it an attack. How is what I post an attackt? The way I articulate my thoughts perfectly? That I can't help.
RB, you've got a helluva sense of wit, but you are on a site full of people who are not the best at understanding sarcasm.
From what you've described previously, it's not really clear that these people to whom you refer were truly friends. Friends are people one likes, not just people with whom we do stuff/hang out.

Now what was said against me was simply false. But if I defend myself, with impeccable diction, it'll be deemed an "attack." If I say, "I don't want my thread to be steered in the wrong direction," I'll be the rude one or told "it's jut the internet." Well I must have forgotten to check my brain at the door of the internet. I've brought it in with me and unleashed it upon unsuspecting internet folks. This is not sarcasm; it is a metaphor. The above response deemed an attack was indeed sarcasm, it's my go-to response when I'm annoyed. I apologize for any confusion. If you search my username and the word "thank you" you'll see that I thank nearly everyone who is polite and at least trying to be helpful. Others who I suspect are getting rude will be duly scolded, and of course in a well written post. This was not an attacking post, I have no reason to attack you. Like I said I'm simply typing the words that form the best response and hitting submit.
As for the friends thing, well, no, I didn't like them really. I liked them better than a lot of other annoying people.

"You are 0 help"?
"I keep coming to this place for help and never get any; this is a last ditch effort. "?
If you can't see how those are attacks then you may not be as NT as you think.
And the post I quoted was pure snark.

As for "expressing yourself perfectly"; the impression you give off is of someone terribly impatient who snaps at people who don't immediately guess exactly what they want and give perfect advice. You may want to work on your self-evaluation.
