Can head aches be the result of a sensory overload?

I usually get head aches after attending a social get-together or after beeing in a crowded and noisy place. This also tends to happen if I am exposed to bright light. It normally doesn't feel like your typical head-ache; it's more of a "skull ache", where the only thing that makes it feel better is to punck or hit yourself in the head/area around the head.

owwww... i know exactly what you mean there, having suffered from a 'skull ache' all today  and that came on after talking on the phone for 2 hours yesterday. so it was caused by overload of a sort.

and yes i also find hitting my head is the only way to make the feeling ease off. i have to hit my head quite hard, not too hard though, but just hard enough that i feel my brain 'relaxing' and the ache eases off. even then as soon as i stop it tenses back up again :(

I get the same thing too.

I need to take aleeve for it or else it will never go away.

I know what my triggers are so I try to take some in advance for when I know I'll be putting myself at risk for getting one.

Sensory issues and social situations can cause headaches for a variety of reasons. It could be the physical stress on your body trying to concentrate on what is being said if you have auditory issues if you are having a conversation. Or just from trying to deal with the wall of sounds and being overwhelmed. If it is more like a stress headache from tight muscles one odd thing that may help afterwards is LIGHTLY pulling your hair at the back of you head because that may release some tense muscles. I usually have to lay down even after a positive social engagement - just because it takes alot of effort. I really don't tolerate sunlight or bright light very well either and besides headaches can get visual migraines - those can be weird but it is a family thing as my father has those as well. My husband (NT) refers to me and our son as hot house tomatos because we are so sensitve (lol).

Sensory issues = stress for me. And yes, the end result is usually a headache. Such as right now. :(
