I wonder if its because of my Aspergers children respond differently towards me than how they usually do with NT adults. I haven't been around a lot of autistic children, but those who I have encountered are drawn to me even if I don't look at them or talk with them. Autistic kids will hug me and want to point things out to me. I've even had older ones seem to be able to read my mind.

Children two years old and under stare at me and smile. In stores, they tend to want to follow me. It's weird, especially since they don't act that way towards other adults. I'm guessing it has to be something about Aspergers that makes them want to trust me or maybe it's just me?

Anyone else experience this same odd aura that attracts?

That happens to me, a lot. The most recent incident happened to me in the summer, at a park. A small kid who had my facial features, walked up to me, and talking to me, in his native language. His mum took him across the field, because the family was headed to a party. I looked at the little boy. He saw my face and he started running towards me. It was cute.

What's not so cute though is when you get a dirty look from the child's parent... as if you're doing something wrong.

Children react to very different social cues than adults do. I'd like to say it is a natural instinct on who is "nice," and who isn't, but I saw some evidence with my own kids that it wasn't always true. Maybe they react to certain cues that make them feel safe? I never really figured it out watching my own kids. Just ... consider it a compliment, and it isn't your problem how their parents react (who knows what prejudices the parents have).

Be careful to be polite but not solicitous to the kids; that is what is expected by their parents. If the child is asking you to interact beyond the normal boundaries they should have with strangers, it is good to locate the parent and ask, for example, "is it OK if I tell your son about this book I'm reading? He's asking. I promise to keep it age appropriate!"

Children seem to be drawn to me too....(although, I also love children, maybe they are just *sensing* that?) I think most of these children are NT children though- (although I have a niece or 2 who are "questionable"....time will tell).

I do notice, also, that atypical adults seem to be drawn to me. One guy who I think might have Down´s Syndrome has come onto the train a few times, singled me out, held my hand and looked at me deeply, as if he were blessing me.....bypassing everyone else on the train. I feel quite honored when he does that. :D Sometimes I wonder if people who are *different* can just sense when others are different, like them, even if it´s not exactly the same, or to the same degree.

Only sometimes, like in the store, one will
look at me and "lock on" to me or crack a
grin at me and even wave.

I think its my Tigger on my overalls
myself but some of my frends and family
tell me its something else about me.

I don't think so. If anything they immediately pick me out as someone to target-- thinking it is funny to follow me because I do not like to be followed around. But I'm not around little children much, besides an autistic sibling. We get along okay.
