AS won't go away whether you are here or elsewhere. It doesn't work like that.

Oh, there is a very humorous response of things that this site will not cure beyond AS that I had planned, but it seems like you're feeling a bit melancholic and this is our first encounter.

I find the principal behind a forum not necessarily to cure anything, but to meet with others and share one's opinion, experiences, and stories. Besides, it's a much easier way of communication than in person sometimes.

Sites like this aren't for curing, they're for coping.

It won't go away. There's really only two things to do:

1.) Work to improve it and/or Cope. Of course this is really difficult, but the only option. It's possible. I can say I've been much worse than I am now.

2.) Acceptance. This is something I'm a hypocrite with, I still struggle with this, but to avoid depression and being melancholic over it all, it's the only option here - AS won't go away, so take what you have. Some people are blind, some deaf, some mute. They don't have some basic functions of human life, either. Not to mention those born with other disabilities. But they can still achieve great things. Hell, Beethoven. Deaf classical composer. We're talking about someone who is also a candidate for Asperger's, and Depression. People can do great things, and this applies to everyone. No one is so "out of it" that they can't do great things. Sometimes, even slightly good things are good enough too.

It won't go away, but you can use it to your advantage and make it work for you. Plus, you've got support here...we are all in the same boat. :)

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

You mean I can't "post" my way off the spectrum? Why didn't somebody tell me?

Nothing will make it go away. The only thing you can do is to work with your brain instead of hurting yourself by trying to be normal.

If coming here amplifies your problems, that's probably a good thing, so you can see (or hear) them in full consciousness, and begin to work with them.

There are alot of people here from varying backgrounds with different life experiences, not everyone is very positive or has a very good outlook on life and some people have problems that range in the level of difficulty they cause them, so this site can be reminding of difficulties.

Nothing will ever make something that is an inherent part of *you* ever go away without first destroying you as you exist, which just isn't happening.

I'll tell you what though, we are here to listen and talk if you need it and maybe give you feedback so you can help yourself find how to use your attributes to your advantage and get along with the world better should you want to. Or you could just stay here and have fun talking with us. My advice for now is try not to be so negative about yourself. Learn to work with it and use the attributes of yourself to your advantage whenever possible. Maybe get advice from others on their strategies for managing the same problems you have. I know that these things are easier said than done.

There are people who have posted here with the claim that their AS has gone away. But always people who got that solution they are talking about elsewhere, come here to preach salvation, and then (usually) leave and don't return, without even a discussion. I've never seen someone come back and say "hey, yes, I tried what N suggested, and it worked, and my AS went away".

So, no, coming here won't make your AS go away. It may help you learn to accept it. It may help you to deal with it. It may provide an entertaining distraction. And you may find a lot of meaningless (to you) stuff while looking for the useful stuff.

If you are wanting your AS to go away, I suggest a shift in perspective. Rather than wanting your AS to go away, ask yourself, what can I do to make my life better for myself?

Did you think that coming to WP would make AS magically disappear?

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/aspe ... perger.htm

As you know, Asperger will magically disappear in the year 2013 in the DSM 5 when the term Asperger is phased out and replaced by the word Autism.

When was this a serious consideration that it may?
Lifelong pervasive neurological condition cured by posting on a forum? Am I missing something here?

I hope that coming to this site doesn't make my AS go away. I like being a part of the Aspergian Club with Albert Einstein, Temple Grandin, Bill Gates, Mick Avory and Craig Nichols.

Of course not. It's the internet, not brain surgery. :?
