Why is it that the closer somebody is to my own age, the less comfortable I feel around them? Is that common with people who have AS? I feel the most comfortable around old people. Maybe it's because I'm afraid that people my age are more likely to suspect that "something is wrong" with me.

I'm better talking to older people too.

I've experienced something similar.

i don't have any1 in my circle of trust that has an age which is within a year of my own.

It seems to be a common trait for those with learning disabilities to relate to younger or older people more than those their own age. I find this too that I get on better with people younger than me or much older. In the past say in college the people I spoke to during the break were younger than me a few years or so when I used to go to church with my parents I remember I often spoke a lot to the older people there and rarely to kids my own age. It's not I can't get on peers my own age but I can't seem to relate to them as well.

Why is this though? Is it partly because we are immature? I feel like while I am an adult and I am often mature (especially in work) at the sametime I am like still like a teenager. I am 25 years old by the way..

One thing I find odd is sometimes when I am in a group most people in the group are younger than me at least a few years but it's usually only me who ever gets asked for ID even though I am the oldest there. Could this be because some of us come across as younger than our actual age.

For me it's the opposite - my peers are often too immature, whereas adults generally aren't.

I'm also all right with kids (even high-school age), it's when I'm dealing people who look my age I start to feel self-conscious.

I judge my own behaviour using my peer group. Which means, as long are there are none, I can just be myself. As soon as peers appear, I end up to be somebody who sucks at peer-like behaviour.

Most of my peers are imbeciles so it shouldn't be that surprising. I'd have to see if not interacting with peers remains constant beyond this point.

I also experience that, as well. I've always felt that way. I also find that my peers are more likely to judge me, than people who are at least 5 years older than me are.
