Hi
There's the Haven subforum for posting about negative or bad experiences. Where can people post about nice stuff that happened to them?

I normally post the positive stuff in this area of the forum or the random discussion.

I made a thread a while back called "glider18's Wonderful World of Autism" for acknowledging positives in autism. You can post there, or find many other threads that are positive in outlook. My thread is on the General Autism Discussion---down the list a little bit even though I posted to it yesterday.

Same here with superboyian, posting in Random and General.

I think we really should be getting a discussion board for it though, any name suggestions?

My Suggestion: Soapbox :D

Cheerfully,
Wallourdes

Ok, I guess I'll post here then.

Well, I usually play squash all by myself, but today there was this nice girl who saw me play and asked if she could join me, so I said yes and we had a good game and even talked for a while after that, and she asked me if I play there often.

Then (we're still talking about the same sports club) my parents were sitting and talking with their friends, and I was sitting there too, and usually I don't say anything but today they talked about dreams so I mustered some courage and told everyone there (it was six people) about a dream I had the other night. They were a little bit surprised to hear me speak and it was felt a little weird with everyone looking at me (I tried not to look at anyone in particular because then it would be too difficult) but overall it felt nice.

You could always start a brand new thread of your own and see what happens. When I made my thread, I was incredibly surprised by the numbers of members posting their positives (448 replies at the time of this posting). It doesn't get much traffic now, but I kept a list I would update showing all the members that had related positives due to autism.

Or as you just did---make this your thread Alexptrans.

I will add to this thread.

Autism has given me the gifts of music and writing. Both have come about as the result of being autistic.

And sometimes, when we work with our special intense interests, amazing things can happen for us.

In my obsessive collecting of things related to my interests, I acquired from another collector a mysterious blueprint for a roller coaster from the 1920s. It turns out the blueprint (an original draft of a coaster that was never built) was drawn by a very famous coaster designer (a Rembrandt of coaster design). And the draft I have is the only known blueprint for this coaster that was intended to be a major thrill ride (extremely intense/violent coaster plan). I keep that plan like a parent keeps a child---very protective of it. I am nearing completion of an HO scale model of it. There is a major amusement park museum (that I contacted in order to get verification on this coaster's designer) that is wanting my blueprint. But even though they pay large sums of money to buy stuff like this, I am not sure I can part with it. Some in my family think I should sell it if the offer is right, and some understand me wanting to keep it. I was just wanting verification of the designer. Even if I sold it for $50,000, I think I would regret it someday. At this time, the museum wants me to submit an article about this coaster and the park that it was intended for (the park fell into financial difficulty after electric bills were unfairly raised on them in the late 1920s---so the expansion that would have included the coaster never came about). I feel like fate brought it into my possession for some reason---and I don't think it was to sell it. My ultimate goal is to have it built for some amusement park somewhere, and I can ride it.

Although this dilemma can cause anxiety, I still find this episode in my life extremely fun and fascinating because it is dealing with my special intense interest of roller coasters.

alexptrans,
That sounds like a very nice day. Will you be playing squash with this girl again? If she asked if you play there often, she may well have been suggesting that she'd like to play with you again some time.

And good for you, speaking up! In my experience, speaking in groups of people gets easier the more you do it (though of course there may be the occasional setback or bad day). I use to be practically mute when around more than one or two people, but now I can usually join in, even if I don't do so as much as the other people present. It took a lot of conscious work on my part, but I think it was worth it. Anyway, point is, that's good! You should try to do so again next time you have something to say on the topic at hand.

Thank you Kaybee!

Yes, maybe I will play with her again. I think I liked playing with her because it's a very structured activity with clear rules. It was more difficult talking to her after the game, because that's more of a "free-form" thing.
