i would just like to say that i think this merge of aspi with autist is in my opinion utter BS.

totally and utterly misguided. will cause nothing but upset. simple fact.

Autistic disorder and Asperger's disorders are both subgroups. The title in DSM is Pervasive developmental disorders. Some title it Autism spectrum disorders but then you get the confusion of the title and one of the subgroups.

Do you have troubles coping with the fact that you are on the autistic spectrums because of a lack of knowledge about autism or the fact that autistic people are not considered normal and are rejected by society and depicted in a strange stereotyped way ? Because most people who say that do.

All stereotypes, not reality. Non-AS autistic people can be both sides of those things. So can AS autistic people. Anyone who really believes these stereotypes needs a lot more information about how autistic people work. Autistic people have been trying to free ourselves from the belief in those stereotypes for decades now.

So true! Hang around here a little more, OP, and actually get to know us. Unless somebody mentions their diagnosis or talks about speech delays, I doubt you'd be able to tell who had which diagnosis without looking at our profiles.

Besides, I dare you to say that my autistic father (who was a pioneer in voice-recognition technology in the 1970s--no, I did not mistype the decade) couldn't innovate!

Or tell me I crave company, for that matter. I'll laugh in your face as I slam the door shut to spend another couple of weeks at home, relaxing, before school starts and I'm forced to socialize again!

Out of interest, how 'asexual' [as per your profile] are you? Does it apply to any intimate relationship or is it purely sexual? Is this a conscious choice or a measure of acceptance on your part?

Asexuality is one of many recognized sexual orientations, and covers a wide range of styles. Many asexuals prefer platonic romantic relationships to physically intimate ones; and these may identify as bi-asexual, hetero-asexual, homo-asexual, etc. Others are aromantic/asexual, and want only friendship, no romance. I am aromantic/asexual, but may one day be ready for a platonic relationship, no gender preference. At the moment I prefer to be alone. I have always known I did not want to have sex with anyone, that I wasn't attracted to anyone, though I didn't know what "asexual" meant until I encountered the term in my early twenties. I can see aesthetic beauty in both genders, and form friendships with both genders; but romance, especially the physical aspects of romance, seems pretty irrelevant to me. It means about as much to me as a hobby I have no interest in--say, bird-watching or hockey. It is neither a conscious choice nor "a measure of acceptance". I was simply born this way.
