Annoying Sidebar Ad

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, or if it even bothers anybody else, but the ad currently running in the sidebar...the one with the hyper kid jumping up and down, waving his arms...drives me nuts. I haven't been able to spend much time on WP since that one started popping up. I know it's for an ADD/ADHD medication, so they would naturally advertise on a website such as this, but it seems odd that an aspie website would have that ad. The kid is really annoying and distracting, purposely trying to divert your attention from what you're trying to focus on...like many aspies, I HATE being distracted from my focus. The most annoying thing is that when you scroll down, the kid follows you....augh, it makes me crazy and I don't think I'll be back until it's gone. Just had to get that out there...

omg i hate that ad .... I was on the phone last week telling my friend how much joy i would get from punching the person who decided to post that ad on this website.

I'm glad I'm not the only one on here who is bothered by it. I actually have to hold one hand over it while I scroll past!

I also told a friend about how much it bothers me. My friend, not an aspie or on the spectrum (although she is OCD), finds it especially evil that that ad would be on an autism-related site.

That ad drives me stark raving mad too. I was so annoyed that I emailed Alex about it. He told me that he did not like it either but had no choice but to run what was provided, My solution is to open a window (any window... an empty folder window works fine) and place it so that it obscures all that distracting activity. You must bring it back to the front again each time you scroll, but at least it allows you to read the page content in peace and quiet.

Since those adds on the side got so flashy I started dragging that portion of the web page off my screen when I visit here.

This has, in fact, been discussed extensively. Go to tucows.com or download.cnet.com, search for adblocker software for your system and browser (windows/mac, Internet Explorer/Firefox/Safari/etc). Download and install. Problem solved. The general concesus seems to be that Adblock Plus is the "best" one. Please remember, though, that websites get paid based on how many people see a particular ad. If you block every ad on the site, Alex gets no money, which could lead to him either charging for access, reducing the features available, or even closing the site. So, block the ads that you just can't deal with (like trampoline boy), but let the others show up.

Until recently, that was the only sidebar ad I've ever seen. Along with the ad with the kid spitting out pills on the top of the page, of course.

I'd install AdBlock, but that's so much more work than complaining about things we can change.

I HATE all the animations and stuff that appear on websites. The website I keep for my artwork is very clean and minimalist. I'm thinking that may be an aspie thing.

Do NT's WANT all this stuff going on or is it just unrelenting advertisers cluttering up the world?

The magic sheet of paper placed on the screen is the quickest fix .

Strangely I am getting used to it lol still annoys me a little tho, it would be better if he jumped just once and then the animation would stop.

hmm... I always only get a simple google ad...

i hate the god damn jumping kid ad. but they got to make the money somehow. but whoever created it is evil.

I don't like any "in your face" type ads, whether they run on TV or the net. Some of them are painful to my eyes, my ears, or both. But there's no such thing as a free lunch, & without ads, there wouldn't be cool places like this.
