Store employees greeting you as you walk in

With the holiday shopping season coming up, how many of you feel awkward when a store employee says hi to you or asks if you need any help? Especially when I'm by myself, I don't really want to talk to people, just shop.

Who else here has problems with that?

I generally don't like people even looking at me when I go to the store let alone talk to me. The way I see it I would go and ask an employee for help only when I need it, but it is their job so I understand.

I just brush them off.

I generally look at them and nod. They're just poor schmoes whose bosses forced them to do that; you can't very well be annoyed at them for it.

It's better to expect it to happen. It happens in almost every store. I either say 'no, just looking' or 'well...there's this one thing I need..'
It took time to feel ok around them. I don't really like being close to people in a store.

I used to work at Hollister - an offshoot of Abercrombie and I was in those shoes once. I expect it.

It annoys me, but I don't hate them for it. It's part of their job, and their bosses tell them to do it, so they don't really have any choice.

I don't like being approached with offers of help or greeting, but I accept it and just say no, or no thank you. It's funny, they're hard to find though when I do need help! I hate asking for help...

I have really long hair and this one time when I was around 22 some sales woman saw me coming around a corner and sprayed me with perfume thinking I was a woman. Then I heard another woman behind the counter say "why did you spray that guy?" Then my brother yells out you really need a hair cut.

i know its their job but they do make me feel really uncomfortable. I will often avoid shops that i know are more likely to have this sort of thing. I also avoid people who try to sell stuff along the middle of isles around shopping complexes. i rarely buy things, i just like to walk and look at peoples faces.

Curiously enough, I do not find it that offensive. They are just doing their jobs, and I figure "At least someone is paying attention to me."

i tell them to either BUZZ OFF or i give them the stare like in the pic of samsa, it freaks them out.

Sales staff are mostly extroverted NTs, they make me totally uncomfortable so I do my best to avoid them where I can.
If I need help I will ask, only then you can't find them.

It annoys me greatly. But they are just people doing a job. I have to consciously force myself to make eye contact. They don't deserve hostility so I try even if I want to avoid them entirely.

They are just doing their job, but I do hate when they come up to you all jolly and s**t, greet and ask how they can help and what I'm looking for etc.
Jesus I just stepped into the f*****g store how can I possible know what I want and what they have. I don't mind if they ask after 15-20 min of rummaging through their stuff. I'll either tell them I need no help or I ask for stuff.
But this direct greeting smiley smiley attack they do around the holidays, not very nice. And it's every store you enter, kinda makes you wanna tell them to shut up, go grab something to eat or go home.
