Recently when going through some old posts, I read that a factor of AS is that one is supposed to have no or little "knowing" of their own emotional states.
In general, I don't have this problem anymore.
I did have some difficulty articulating or rationally expressing it in childhood.
What helped me most was when my parents sent me on a self-development course for youth. Part of the course discussed emotions and recognising them, and their possible meanings. Later I bought a copy of "No Ordinary Moments" which among other things discussed the purpose of emotions of Fear, Sadness, Anger and others similar to them. I learned to articulate feelings (e.g. noticing I felt anger and saying things like "I feel angry because..." or "I feel angry and I think...") in a pedantic way. Later I read books on psychology and cognitive-behavioural analysis, and I developed a better understanding of the relationship between emotions, thoughts, and beliefs.
What's curious is I was diagnosed after I developed this emotional awareness. The psychologist said that lack of emotional awareness is not a concrete symptom as many aspies are capable of developing emotional awareness and competence if the right intervention is made early enough.
