Autism / Disability, in general, Awareness in Schools.

Hi everyone,
The school I went to didnt include any sort of disability awareness/ education in the curriculum and I've been wondering how different other schools are, and what peoples experiences of this are ?
By disability awareness I mean teaching pupils about disability in general and specific disabilities such as Aspergers and Autism and by extension (hopefully) teaching them to be more tolerant of difference.
Just asking this as I am hoping to eventually convince the secondry school I went to, to rectify this.
Sorry If I've posted this in the wrong section of the forums, I'm not 100% sure where it fits.
Any replies will be much appreciated

Perhaps my comment is a bit off-topic, but I am not much optimist about that - in reality, I suspect that, if the other children learn that some "excentricities" can, in reality, be the expression of a disability, they will stigmatize even more the "different" people.

That seems to be the way that AS has sadly gone these days. To think years ago, I would tell someone I had AS and no one would even know what the heck I was talking about. Now everywhere I go people are making jokes about it.
