and I talked to a few of my old co-workers briefly. I don't really know how they view me, but I think they see me as a random kind of "entertaining" novelty guy, whether or not I am trying to be....which I don't think I ever try to be aside from an occasional "joke" I try to make. But maybe that is how I came across all the time. Something along that line. They genuinely seemed surprised and interested to see me.

I had to leave after a couple of minutes, and as I was walking away one of them said "wear a condom bro!". I turned around and smiled because I thought It was joking exiting banter, and Im sure it was.........BUT

...it left me wondering does it have undertones too it.........I know nobody can know if they don't know my co-workers or at least see our interaction, but was this another way of calling me "ret*d" or "there is no way that guy is getting laid"??? I really don't know if I am over-thinking this, or if statements like that have derogatory undertones to them.

If they are picking at me fine, its just I really would like to know where I stand......I want to not be oblivious to s**t like this. If people think I am a random novelty act, then fine, as long as I am AWARE and know that.

If I were you, I would just forget about that silly comment. I don't know how he meant it, but it just sounds like exiting banter, like you called it, and it isn't worth taking too seriously.
I used to think about this sort of thing a lot, comments people made, then I realized it was just causing me too much trouble. So, I started thinking, "I'll forget that comment before I know it," and I do! I try not to pay too much attention to that kind of banter.

hi.. i kinda agree with ana.. though i'm an NT that's actually quite an adivice.. do not pay too much attention if a comment or statement towards you is not really serious so you wouldn't be stress out about it. about the comment, maybe he just really say things like those and being friendly or funny and does not have any undertone to it. and even if it has, it doesn't and shouldn't really matter to you right?! you could just always be the better person than them and to yourself when you feel you are wronged. i dunno just saying.. :)

Aahhh, it's anyone's guess what he meant, really. :?
Even if it was some moronic jokey comment - just let it go.

Though a lot of off hand comments like that go right over my head, once in a while one comes that seems crystal clear.

It wasn't a jab, or picking on you. The dude most likely says that to many people.

"Wear a condom," sounds to me like a random tidbit of advice to keep safe, like many other similar comments.

Ever seen the Red Green show? Every time he closes the show, he says, "Keep your stick on the ice."

When I was a cab driver, we all told each other as a means of saying "Good bye," or "Keep safe," "Keep it between the ditches!"

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of similar comments that mean nothing much more than, "Take care of yourself."

Yeah, lol, it that's probably what the guy meant. "Stay Safe!" It was probably a slang phrase for that. When I first read the topic post, I was mystified to what the guy was implying, but now it becomes crystal clear.

I tend to over-analyze comments too, but I think you got some good advice here. Just let it go and try not to dwell on it.

I strongly suspect that the condom comment should be interpreted as:"wear a condom because you shouldn't bring to the world the next (insert a random insult) as you". I'm afraid that's the real interpretation :?

Maybe it depends on the tone of voice used? Unfortunately, that's not something aspies are good at :(

okay, so if finally we have figured out thats what it meant, what good did it bring anyone? its a nonsensical remark and should not be taken seriously or with much attention. do not choose to thrive on being insulted, it will just hurt you, everyone goes through things or comments like these, yes though its not the same with everybody else but for sure nobody wants to be hurt. so please don't try to find something that might hurt you which is even probably not there.

I agree. regardless of what the remark might have been intended to mean, its meaning is only of concern to the ignorant person making the comment. You did nothing wrong. Don't let the random utterances of insensitive and uninformed people hurt you.

if it was meant that they thought would it would be better that I was neutered, fine......

its just that I always feel so paranoid because I don't know how people view me.

I don't think I present that sense of insecurity for everyone to see...I just act the way i ACT.....but I just feel like everything thinks im some ret*d.......

i really feel like if I knew where I stood whether good or bad at least I would know....

i know i may not be able to fully understand your concern with all this but anyway i'm just trying to help you veer away from thinking that way.. look, it may not even mean anything like preferring you to be neutered, thats from your speculation. in some way in some time everybody feels the need to know how people view them but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. what matter is how you view yourself or how you want to view yourself and work on achieving that.

lightening020 wrote:

then what? wherever you stood on anybody's point of view doesn't matter and most likely doesnt even matter to the other person too. and in the process of getting to know that might cause you some hurt, like you thinking now that they want you neutered when there's a megalooney high probability that they dont mean that. whats important is you know where you stand to yourself and try to remove your attention from things that would pull you down and look at the good things about you and celebrate those, i'm sure there's a lot if you just don't put much effort on figuring out if anybody meant you anything bad.

everybody is viewed both bad and good, no one can please everyone, the only important person in this world you should please is yourself. and this is not exactly pleasing yourself. for all you know the guy that said that to you might be having himself neutered as we speak, and who cares right?! he doesnt. hehe.. anyway, i just wish you'd lift your spirit and not let anything pull you down, because there's a lot already that would and could really and intentionally pull you down. so at least don't have that for yourself.
