Austism Social Groups in South Florida ?

Hi guys,

does anyone here know, by chance, if there are Austism groups here in south florida ?
I would like to meet other autistics in my area but I really don't know where to go.
Maybe volunteer work involving other autistics would be nice too.

Any tips/recommendations much appreciated

I live in the Lauderdale-by-the-sea area. Roughly a mile south of Commercial Blvd and A1A to be exact.

There is one group that I know of.... but before I say anything about it, I would prefer you PM me for details as
there is a certain unpleasant thing you should know about this group. I don't feel like saying too much about all that here. I'm really not sure of any volunteer work involving autistics in Broward county. I've never
come across any, (and i've looked) but that doesn't mean none exists. Also...there probably is something like this in Miami-Dade
and/or Palm beach counties. If so....I certainly cannot travel to either county just for volunteer work with gas
being $3.15 per gallon.

In any case....you and I could always meet sometime if you like. While i've never been formally dx-ed with Asperger's or any officially-recognized ASD, I do have Asperger's "sister disorder" known as NLD/NVLD. Many professionals believe Asperger's and NLD are identical disorders, (meaning with a common etiology and clinical manifestations) but the jury is still out on all that. I have also been diagnosed with schizoid or schizotypal personality disorder on just about every neuropsych eval i've taken and i've taken six in my life.


The combination of these particular "odd" or "eccentric" personality disorder and a right hemisphere-based "learning disability" which impacts social, motor, visual-spatial and executive functioning skills (not to mention my processing speed.....which is quite poor ) sounds like Asperger's to me..... but obviously the professionals who've tested me don't agree.
