Scared (maybe aspie) wife of NT who might join marines.
My husband is seriously looking into the Marines. I do not have a diagnosis of AS yet, but I am in the evaluation process right now. I do not do well with change or abandonement. I know my husband loves me, but I am afraid that I will shut down when he is not around. I need his constant encouragement to help me stay positive and focused. Are there any military wives that have any advice or guidance for me?
my 2nd husband was a marine (we have since divorced) while the military can be a great opportunity for some, I hated it. They don't care about the families, you are flat broke, he is gone ALOT and with almost no notice, and the type of people he will work with all day long will be macho "alpha male" type guys, they end up becoming testasterone fueled idiots after a few months. I haven't met one who hadn't and I have family that joined too I am sad to say. Of the 9 or 10 married couples I knew, none made it past the males 3 year mark before divorcing due to money issues, time apart issues, or him changing from being in. It was very sad. Of that as well, at least 6 of them cheated on their spouses while on deployment that I found out about, my ex husband being one of them. I would look into the airforce, they have a very different enviroment, they pay higher and it is a different type of person who joins.

one thing, if you DO get your formal DX, and he joins, go to EFM on base, give them your DX, and get put as a level 3 EFM or higher if you can. That will restrict him going over seas without you at least, so you won't have to go through that. Anything lower than a level 3, he can still go for 6 months without you on ship. with out it at all, they can send him up to a year without you, so really push for your DX if possible. Also, he will be required to go on ship during his four years at least once for a 6 month deployment. They have support groups on base for wives but they aren't a lot of help to an aspie from my experience.
