I was just wondering what you all think about them, how you scored, how reliable it might be at having a starting point?

Even before the test my husband looked at aspergers for the first time (never heard of it before) and said I have that. There is no doubt in my mind he would get a diagnosis from the doctor. Right now with no insurence, we have to wait. But we will after that.

I found a test for my husbnad to take that another aspie suggested. I took it for my husband while he was at work, based on what I know about him. It was 36 (over 32 is considered aspie territory). When he came home and took it himself he scored 37 (Yeah I know my husband pretty well!! !). I took it myself, and I scored 11. Well below even average.

I just wanted to know what people think about these, how you scored ect....

I scored a 36 and was diagnosed 3 weeks later.

If its the test I think it is, then it only is suggestive. That test shows a possibility of Asperger's. But it is also known to skew high for people in technical and scientific fields. There are some other tests available. If he scores high on all of them it is a stronger indication. Try here:

How does an adult go about getting a dx, what kind of doctor do they go to?

Thanks for the info! I will show him these when he gets home! He is neither technical or scientific, in fact, very opposite sadly. He wants to be technical but isnt!

To make a long story short...

The tests are ment as a guidance. They are used in conjunction with a series of interwievs, to let a professional make diagnoses.
- Therefor they give a guidance if the testperson is on the spectrum or not...

Aspie-quiz gave me a AS 152/200
AQ were 42
EQ were 7
and
SQ were 64

And im diagnosed Aspie.

If it is necessary, you need to be evaluated by a psychologist or psychiatrist. You REALLY want to find one that has experience in autism with adults. Much of the current practice is geared towards early detection in children.

Another important question is why get a diagnosis? It can be helpful in some circumstances. Other times it is just a waste of money. Sometimes it can cause problems with employment (illegal, but it happens).

While self testing cannot replace a formal diagnosis by a qualified professional, there are (I think) seven tests there, most of which are officially used as diagnostic tests.

It seems to me that, if one scores "Aspie" on one of them but "non-aspie" on the others, it is unlikely that one is, in fact, diagnosable as having an Austism Spectrum Disorder. Conversely, if one scores deep in "Aspie" territory on all of them, AND that person experiences significant difficulties in life due to Aspie traits (as defined in the DSM IV or Gillberg's criteria, [or both]), it is a pretty safe bet that that person could successfully obtain a diagnosis - if they choose to pursue one. IMHO, of course.

There are numerous threads on here where people have posted their scores on various of those tests. MANY people posted their scores in the thread I linked to above.

I am not going to look up my scores on all of those tests right now, but I come in as very aspie on all of them. While I have definite impairments due to my Aspie traits, I cannot say with certainty that they reach the level of "clinically significant," which is required for a formal diagnosis. Considering the utter absence of any support for adults with ASDs, I have decided that (at least for now) there is no advantage to seeking a diagnosis.

I got 41 on the AQ test

Aspie quiz- I got about 156/200 aspie and 32/200 NT

I can't remember all my exact scores, but on every other related test I took, I got into what people are saying is 'aspie territory'.

I'm not even diagnosed! These tests cannot be officially in place of a formal diagnosis, but it can be good indicator for anyone considering getting an assessment. I think they are mainly accurate, but with some odd questions that are seemingly irrelevant :L

I score as having aspergers on all of them but am not diagnosed with it. I am, however, an introvert diagnosed with severe social anxiety.

I have scored between 40 and 46-ish post-diagnosis. I was diagnosed at ten years of age, and I am now fifteen years of age.

Honestly I think I would rather not have a dx for my son specifically. I do not vaccinate my children and I homeschool. I am already on the radar for being different. I go get him tested and they want to put him on meds and I dont want too? I can see that being ugly. I dont want to be forced to give anti-psych meds.

As for my husband, we wont tell anyone either way honestly. Most people in our circle wouldnt accept that. They would brush it off like they have with my son. Having a dx would just be for officializing it. Do you need that? I dont think he does, we know how he is, it effects his life. It effects our lives. Daily.

Bumble - any desire to get a second opinion? Was your dxing dr well versed in Asperger's?

Of all those tests, which is the most useful? If you had to pick 2 or 3 that were most important, which ones would you have them be?

So far, I have only taken one online test and it was the AQ Test. I answered as honestly as I could and scored a 33, which put me just into the spectrum. Now, while I found the result interesting, I have to say that the questions dealt almost exclusively with the social aspect of Aspergers and autism. It really didn't delve into the kinds of sensory issues common to the spectrum, which leads me to believe the test was probably developed by an NT (or team of NTs ).

For me, what has been more important has been doing as much reading and research on autism as possible and matching it against what I've observed about myself over the last 41 years. As I've slowly come to grips with the whole thing, it's like a huge stadium light has been shone on my life and I am learning to see so many things differently now. It has brought me a certain sense of peace after many years of confusion and pain.

That said, I certainly won't say that I won't take any more online tests as time allows, but I will take results with a grain of salt to say the least.

I have thought about checking to make sure the diagnosis is right as my social problems etc have pretty much been with me all of my life. As a child when I saw a therapist one of the first things I did was try to explain I had trouble mixing or socialising and so on. I have been seeing psychiatrists on and off since I was about 7 years old. Whether I was just a very odd child prone to bad tantrums with some very odd quirks thrown in and have had very long running Depression and Social Anxiety I don't know, but I am 35 now and on disability because of it, so am getting nowhere lol.

When I was a child I was usually told I was bright but emotionally immature (due to my tantrums and the way I coped with things) or over sensitive (because I was upset by being bullied at senior school) by therapists (was never tested for asperger's as far as I am aware) and in my adult life was diagnosed with depression, social anxiety, agoraphobia (can't tolerate crowds) and a past diagnosis of OCD. Whatever my problems are they have been with me forever...
