Is there any connection or common findings in those with AS/HFA with coeliac (US celiac) disease? Just wondering, as myself & my child both have Aspergers/NLD & celiac disease.

Don't have celiac. Have eaten wheat my whole life... Other problems yes. Beef bothers me, down to the smell of it cooking. Jalapeno allergy.

To my knowledge there's lots of anecdotal evidence. For example by ex boyfriend, has AS/NLD traits and cousin with AS, has sister who is Coeliac, Mum is lactose intolerant and other sister has an underactive thyroid. His Dad is definitely Aspie, but too old to bother getting diagnosed.

I'm certain I remember hearing in the local group about some people being Coeliac. I am NVLD myself or what the local expert defines as being Asperger "Verbaliser". Other conditions that seem to run in families with AS are epilepsy and others (emc has mental blank).

all autistics hav an intolerance to gluten but only a few r actually alergic 2 it in the coleiac way, non gluten diets help make autism's symtoms better though, but hw can i talk i'm nt on the diet, lol

Not all of us are gluten intolerant. I'm not picking on you, solid, but we do need to be careful about posting these broad generalities. A great many persons who are AS/Autistic are gluten intolerant, but not all of us are. However, all of the AS people in my family, (3, counting me) are female, left handed and have one of the common varieties of kinaestesia. The one cousin who is fully autistic (more RainMan than Monk, as his mother puts it, with a chuckle!) is male and left-handed. I think maybe (in my purely unscientific way) it's that AS persons are predisposed to other additional unusual genetic twists, rather than we all have the same additional genetic twists.
