Last time I checked (which was quite a long time ago), Wrongplanet had roughly 50/50 male to female ratio. But autistic males outnumber autistic females more than 4 to 1. Are many male aspies not members of Wrongplanet? Or are a lot of male aspies severe?

Anyone know why this is?

it could just be that females of any stripe [on the spectrum or no] are naturally more communicative than males of any stripe, and more likely to post on sites such as this one. just a thought.

Per Attwood, adult diagnosis is very close to even. Diagnosis of children is 4:1, but there's evidence that this is at least to some extent caused by people just not noticing that girls are autistic at younger ages. I posted a link to an article a month or two ago that suggested that diagnosticians basically blow girls off rather than evaluate them for things like ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome.

I am not sure that women are more likely to communicate online than men, though.

Could be that since our female compatriots are marginalized in the "real world" that they are forced to turn to the online universe.

They could well all be living under bridges. And I mean that literally. Not trolls.

I don't really know.

I guess that the world's most active autistic forum having a relatively even gender balance might count as an empirical hint that the ratio could be wrong.

I sometimes feel feminine too. (Even though I'm a male).

We actually do have a lot of trolls here though. I thought that's where you were going with that. God that's a horrifying thought, they're all homeless.

As for the OP, I'll pay more attention, because I haven't noticed.

Actually, I think I read once that with AS, the ratio was 70/30 to males, and not all the people here are diagnosed, and a lot of the users are parents of children diagnosed with autism anyway.

Depends where. On social networks possibly, but elsewhere there does tend to be more males. There's even a joke called "there's no girls on the Internet", but females on the Internet are generally becoming lot more common these days.

Just start reading the members' profiles and you'll notice. Many don't have a particular "feminine name" nor do they have avatars that "look feminine".

Awwww... it wouldn't be a debate without you, Surfman!

Also, I find it incredibly hard to get mad at you with that icon... horribly insensitive, obviously overbearing, gross stereotyping aside. :D
