I don't know very many people with AS/HFA

They don't have a lot of autism support groups for kids my age with autism. I went to one once but the group leader was really annoying, mean and rude so I left. I went to another one that was better, but most of the kids there were lower functioning than I was and had a hard time maintaining conversation. No offense to low functioning people, but these kids weren't as smart as me and interested in different things. They all had moderate-to-low functioning I think. I have known a few people in the past with AS/HFA, but I one I lost contact me and one I didn't like very much. There aren't too many people with AS/HFA at my school that I know about. Some of them have moderate or low functioning autism, but no with AS/HFA.

All my good friends have been NT throughout my life.

Anyone else like this?

The only other person I met that was a diagnosed autistic was from my old Dungeons and Dragons group. The guy is the one who gave me the address of Autism Services of Western New York he even gave me a ride to my Aspergers evaluation I thought of him as a good friend then. He Has HFA he told me he had a computer addiction and did not have an e-mail address when I asked for his e-mail address but it seemed like a weird story. I figured he did not want to give me his e-mail address so I did a google search for his name and found his name and picture on a local sex offender registry. He was busted for child porn and for having hidden cameras in the bathroom of the computer store he worked as a repair guy. He had been in the past busted for molesting a 9 year old step sister. I stopped hanging out with the guy imediately. I now run google checks of everyone I meet. He blames his autism and OCD on why he is a sexual offender in the court documents I read.

I think I did have a friend who was very aspie like.I have to ask you how did find the support group.Please tell me.I really want to find one to talk to people like me

It's a numbers game. If 1 in 100 is on the spectrum and 1 in 3 is HFA/AS then 1 in 300 is HFA/AS. In a high school with 1000 students, that means between 3 and 4 HFA/AS students. You might easily be the only person in your grade at your school that is HFA/AS

Don't quote these numbers because I just used them for example.

My daughter's in a mainstream school, in a class of 32, with 2 teachers. The depute head told me that there are 6 kids in her class with various additional needs. I speak to a few mums and have been told that one child has an AS diagnosis, another has dyspraxia and may be on the spectrum too, one seldom speaks, doesn't go to the dining hall or do gym (unknown cause, but no physical reasons) and my daughter has probable AS. I don't know of any reason why her class has such a high number of kids with ASDs and probable ASDs. They've not intentionally put them all in the same class.

I don't know anyone IRL with AS / HFA, unless of course the other people are hiding it too
