I'm looking at a photo in today's newspaper of Indian Musahar, or untouchable children.

India class system has denied these people opportunity with no schooling or health that is normally available to its citizens.

Now, with the threat of maoist groups forming in the Musahar communities, the Gubbermint has decided to raise their status, now offering free education

Traditionally, Musahar people caught and ate rats :? , lived in extreme poverty and have been denied rights normally available to Indian citizens.

Looking at this photo I instantly saw a group of aspie kids 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

Can anyone shed any light on what appear to have been a centuries long ongoing repression of autistics by India's ruling elite??

OMG OMG OMG

I believe what you see as Autistic traits are what you get from generation after generation of denigration and suppression. Being an Untouchable depends on the class they were born into.

Autistic faces=denigration faces?

Do we look like we do solely due to repression and denigration?

Or because of our genes?

Two different things with two different causes. Autistic people are not as we are because of denigration and oppression. However, these things can bring out such traits when children are subjected to them.

I didn't see the picture when I first read your post and the link didn't work. I can see it now and I'm not sure what you're seeing as autistic. As being an untouchable is based on the caste one is born into(one is not placed there after birth because of behavior), I assumed you meant an eyes averted, submissive look. But I'm curious, what are you seeing as autistic?

I thought picking aspergian traits from a face was reasonably easy?

Maybe I'm gifted! I could be wrong on this

But I dont think so. It smells really bad to me

In my life, I never see personally nobody with an official diagnosis of asperger or autism (then, I can't recognize an autistic face). However, these children does not seem to be nothing particularly "odd" with them.

My idea is that the "untouchable", "dalits", etc. (or the name we wish) were, originally the people who, for some reason, did not belong to any of the four castes of the Hunduism, a status that pass from their descendants (making them, in practice, a five caste).

I don't think it is AS.

It is probably social programming brought on by generations of living under the caste system in India.

You have seen a couple of children with "possible" autism symptoms in a single photo of perhaps one family. You are making a rather big attribution bias basing your conclusion on what essentially is an availability heuristic based on a very small sample.

Did it ever occur to you they may be malnourished or physically sick?

No, just ignorance.
