What this post about is meds. I had been taking meds for as long as I can remember, and near the end of my senior year, I decided to try and stop taking them (I was taking meds for my concentration and related bits BTW) just to see if there was a difference. I tried before and my mind had become addicted to these pills it seems so I convinced myself right in my brain I needed them. Now this time, I stopped taking them, and my brain started to hit that point again and I was about to relapse into taking them, but then I heard the song "Uncle Johnny" by The Killers, and that broke it. I've been off of those meds for about 4 months now and my life is better than ever, I can think just as well (if not better) I find myself able to laugh with people more, I can blend in better and I feel like a better human being all around. I was wondering, has anyone had a similar experience involving meds? If it's alright, would y'all mind sharing those tales as well? =D Oh and just for those of you who haven't heard it here's Uncle Johnny:

I have had a terrible experience recently withdrawing from Citalopram. I was told it was NOT addictive and that it was safe to come off. I experienced shocking pain down my back (literally shocking), tremors, severe mood swings, rage, anger, nausea and headaches. I also started hallucinating at one point thinking I was hearing voices that weren't there. In order to stop this, the doctor has now put me on Prozac temporarily because (in the short term) it is easier to come off this without the major side-effects. I'm not convinced though and I am anxiously awaiting the time when I have to start coming off it. Next time a doctor tells me that a drug is safe or not addictive I will tell them where to stick it

Your better living maybe due to just a boost in your self-esteem, given that you quit meds so easely.
As much as I'm all for chemistry modifying our emotions, I believe that psychiatrists everywhere tend to over-prescribe. They rely more on the current trend in psychiatric treatment then the precious little they know about neurochemistry, hence they give out certain substances in high doses on the basis of the sheer "trust" they percieve from their colegues regarding that chemical, rather then attempting to understand the chemical's mode of action, and form a true personal oppinion regarding its dispence.

In other words, you probably didn't need that much of the stuff you where prescribed, and for that long of time, to begin with. Psych meds aren't redundant, but they aren't as alpowerfull as some psychiatrists make them to be either.
