Do other people's negative reaction to AS bother you?

I have been posting on an advice column message board lately where the subject of AS and other disorders, special needs, and such get brought up frequently. I would think that is an okay thing since everything that's being discussed is about human social behavior. There is a few regular posters that make it a point to poke fun at ASD constantly, saying it's an excuse, overly diagnosed, trendy, ect... I have allowed myself to fall into the trap of arguing with them. Not sure why it bothers me so much. I know they're just being ignorant bullies.

Have any of you run into this sort of thing and how do you handle it? Or does it even bother you?

lol yeah its so cool and trendy not to have social skills, its the new thing.....I would not be bothered by what idiots on the internet say they are just trying to upset people probably.

It does bother me, but I tend not to intervene and forget about it quite quickly.
I wonder if many would react similarly if they were in front of your face. Either most of these people are having a laugh or there is a serious lack of understanding.

That's what I wonder. Why would having the social skills of a feral cat be cool? Though, I think it has more to do with the fact that they think it's an over-used tired excuse for anyone who doesn't 'do what society expects of them.' That's exactly what one of them said.

I don't know. I doubt that I'd ever tell someone in real life face to face about my AS unless I had some kind of compelling reason to, so I doubt I'd be having the conversation with them.

They may be just having a laugh, though. I often am lost on other people's sarcasm and friendly banter often seems like an attack to me. I don't get banter very well, at all.

Only time I really had a problem with someone on the net poking fun at AS was when some used aspergers as an insult in a webcomic(that and when it was on robot chicken) I emailed the person that made the comic and told him(nicely) why his use of AS was wrong and asked him to change it.

I was sitting on a table at work when someone in the conversation next to me said that aspergers was just an exagertion of traits everyone had and people who claim to have it were just attention seekers. This really annoyed me as I always fear to be seen that way when having to tell someone I have it.

It bothers me very much. I don't like it when people call it "That Asperger's Thing." It's not a thing, it's not an illness and it's not a disease. It's a part of who I am that I enjoy celebrating. Thing my arse. I also hate it when people ask if I wish to be cured. I do not wish to be cured for the reasons that I've just mentioned.

I just tell them that having excuses is awesome, because I live up to those excuses. Then I just tell them they don't like the excuses because it doesn't apply to them.

That usually shuts them up.
