Anxiety made worse by loud noises

Is it just me or does anyone else get their anxiety made worse by sudden loud noises?

I swear to god everytime I hear someone shout, or someone pound on something or run through the house it gives me an instant headache and I get the effects of what feels like could be a panic attack.

People yelling when i'm in earshot range is horrible also, I get told that once in a while I can be loud but sheesh. In a crowded area or something, it makes me almost feel like passing out.

Does anyone else go through anything similar?

Loud noises have an instant effect on my nervous system. My muscles remain tense for awhile, I get headaches and mild nausea. I'm more "on edge" than usual when it's loud and more prone to panic attacks.

I think this is true for NTs as well, and is just a standard thing that makes anxiety worse.

I agree. I think it can happen to everybody. It's just that some people with ASDs might be more sensitive to sound or certain sounds.

oh yeah. I'm currently on the outs with a neighbor who set off the illegal m80 fireworks over my property while I was sitting on my porch swing on July 3. I *LOST IT* and went off on him, and he's basically told me he's "still a kid" at age 24 and he'll "do whatever he wants" .... he also said that the real estate agent "warned him about" me and how I "don't like noise". So. yeah. it's a problem. I have been deprived of my rose garden this summer, because every time I'm out there, and he sees me, he starts in with the intimidation, jumping on his motorcycle and rev'ing it up, driving past my house slowly rev'ing it. 43 years old, and still being bullied like it was high school. All because this punk loves his "boom" fireworks. jerk. He set the {expetive deleted} things off for a week and a half after the 4th of July. just to show me. I contacted a real estate agent, because I was ready to walk away and move over that. honestly. So, in a nutshell, YES. Loud sudden noises bother me very much. I don't care about the stupid motorcycle, but I do care that his intention is to intimidate. Some 24 year old punk with no respect for a woman old enough to be his mother, and of course, he's very much aware that my husband is gone for a week at a time. yay
