Trouble Following Written Directions?

Do you guys have any issues following written directions given you while filling out forms? I just recently filled out a renewal for my driver's license today and I forgot to write my driver's license number on the back of the check before sealing up the envelope. The I had to reopen it, write it down and then reseal up the envelope with tape. Now I am hiding the envelope until I am ready to mail it so that my dad doesn't see it and I get a long and boring discussion about reading everything out, not just quickly/glancing through it.

It depends on how it's written. Sometimes I have difficulty and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I have to read something over and over to figure it out.

Like League_Girl, sometimes I have to read over something several times to figure it out. And I agree with Willard about the stupid stuff on those forms. I can easily get overwhelmed with it all. Willard mentioned putting furniture together. For me, I benefit greatly from having illustrated diagrams or pictures when putting something together. So yes, I do have some issues with written directions. I can get overwhelmed, and I often benefit from illustrations if I am putting something together.

I don't consider myself to have any particular difficulties with written directions. Of course, if they are badly translated from Japanese, or very complicated directions regarding something in an area I am generally weak in, I would struggle, but so, I think, would anyone. I can also miss things if I am in a rush, or distracted, or just being a bit lazy in my approach, again, so could anyone. So I don't think I have any particular disability in this area.

Verbal instructions on the other hand I do have some difficulty with. I can maybe cope with one or two short, simple steps. Anything more complicated or long-winded and I would have to write them down or have them repeated frequently (after each step, or part of a step, say).

I hate filling out applications for jobs. Some questions are easy, especially the ones that are the same on every application. But sometimes questions pop up what I have never heard of before, and I sit there reading the question over and over again and still not know what to write, then when I do semi-understand the question, I write down an answer, then re-read the question again and find that the answer was not compatible with the question. It's really hard at times.

I'm not sure if this is OCD or some sort of paranoia, but when I read cooking instructions on the packets of food, I keep on thinking I might have mis-read what it said, so I keep going back to read it again. So say if a microwave meal said ''heat in microwave for 5 minutes'', I keep on re-reading the section just to make sure I'm not reading the oven part, then after I've established that, I keep on reading the number of minutes I have to put it in the microwave for, and I even say if out loud, then I go to the microwave holding out 5 fingers to keep that number in mind, then I count the buttons on the microwave (even though the buttons say the numbers on) until I get to the 5, then gently press it and make sure it comes up on the screen......this is all because I fear I might not have read the instructions properly.
