Last night my sister was over my unit. (NT's) I was building a pc up for her and spouse. The time was around 9:00 pm, my dam neice decided to run up and down the stairs. i told her to stop but she wouldn't listen of couse!! ! and eventually my neighbour downstairs yell something at me. ( When i am threatened i make idle threats to ex girlfreinds in the past). While i was putting in a hard drive i looked up at my sister and said Did you hear somebody yell? Then i heard a door slam down stairs. I knew who it was. Then I went ballastic with threats of suicide bla bla ect. My sister just laughed at me. And neice continued to run up down the stairs. then she evetually stopped.
(This neighbour does play loud music)
I am worried now i might be facing eviction. ( then who cares it'sonly me!!) :x

How old is your neice?

If she's only little then it's almost inevitable that she'll want to run around. But if you asked her to stop then it was disobedient of her to carry on, and your Sister should have backed you up. It's down to her and her partner to teach their child how to behave.

I'm worried that if you're threatening suicide over something that trivial, what the hell are you going to do if a water pipe bursts and floods your home, or someone you know gets run over? Your reaction is over-the-top, and if you do this a lot it may be that your Sister knows you are making a scene and "crying wolf". The effectiveness of such gestures has worn off, so now she just laughs at the ridiculousness of them.

The neighbour has no real grounds for complaint, especially if he sometimes plays loud music. It's give and take. He's probably just had a bad day and wants to shout at someone. And by now he'll have forgotten all about it, hopefully.

She's 12, dude. All kids of that age are massively impatient. Find something interesting for her to do, so she won't annoy you. I doubt if she's particularly interested in mending PCs...

Didn't you ever go anywhere as a kid and sit there fidgeting while your parents talked about really boring stuff for hours on end? Maybe she feels the same way?

Your 12 year old neice is old enough to behave herself.Simple solution, you sister controls her when she's at your place, or she dosn't bring her over...PERIOD! I know how you feel, been there with difficult relatives and friend's children and yeah, I've upset a few parents, but see, I do have interesting things for children to do at my home, and sometimes they still think they can misbehave in my home. Then they deal with me, and I'm not pleasant when I have to say something...cause yoiu know, I SHOULDN"T HAVE TO. They don't have to be there. Stick to your guns, you tell your sister, if the niece don't behave, she takes her home, and you will help her another time. Don't yell, scream, have a fit, threaten suicide. You're being made sport of. Not acceptable, then again it is your place, and if you want to act that way I suppose it's your perogative.

She sounds immature for a 12 year old.

A twelve year old should be old enough to understand when told that she is making too much noise.
If not, the parent should step in and take care of it. It's just manners
You were working on a pc for them?
All I can tell you is what I would do: I would tell them not to expect any favors like that again until they teach their child some manners. I would just tell them that very calmly in a controlled voice.

"You and your child have chosen not to display even the most basic of social niceties. I am therefore not bound to reciprocate. In other words, fix your computer yourself until you can teach your child to behave properly in public."

Your sister laughed at you? It seems to me that she's the problem - the kid will line up with her mother. I agree - these people don't treat you right. Don't let them in. May they flounder in cyber swampland.

Does this plug into family roles? Everybody has to change all that sooner or later, aspie or not.

Hm.... no advice to give but to continually and passively argue about it. If things get out of hand, calm down and have a break for a while. I'm stupid for these situations, but I always want to help.

Thats why I never fix a computer/electronic device with the owner present unless they are interested in learning to fix them also.

They are just distracting and tend to freak out about things they dont understand (you start pulling cables and they start worrying you dont know what your doing or something.. about the time they lose track of what went where they start wondering if you can put it back together.. idiots) its like trying to perform open heart surgery with the persons spouse watching you just dont do it.

Heh... I always hover around the repairman asking about how whatever they're fixing works, and what's wrong, and how they're fixing it... I must be an awful bother to them; but it's so fascinating!! I can already do simple repairs myself, which is good for a female (and probably normal for an NT male, and way below par for an Aspie male... but still, leave me my pride!).

Hehe I never mind someone asking how it works Im usually more than happy to give a nice long diatribe entitled "everything you ever wanted to know about subject X and then some just tell me to shut up when you've had enough" :P

So I guess every kid with autism who can not "behave" - like makes noises, stims, twirls around - is just a brat? Of course peple are going to say this is different because the neice doesn't have autism. But how do you know some of the other kids you are apparently judging as rude and immature and ill-mannered do not. Or that somehow their parents are supposed to have them under control. Don't many people on here complain about parents who try to control their kids and make them conform to society's standards. Can you see now why there are so many who do not have a clue about autism do that? Because they are constantly judged and know their kids will be judged because autism is often invisible and the kid appears normal so he should't act that way.
