Standing in large crowds

I'm in London at the moment, and as it happens today is Lord Mayor's day, and fireworks were set off to celebrate. When we went over to Cleopatra's Needle to watch them we were absorbed into a crowd of over TEN THOUSAND people gathered on the street next to the river Thames, doing the exact same thing. I've been in larger crowds before, but they were never as tightly packed as they were here. I think I took the situation surisingly well; even though I was constantly touching other people at all times from all sides I wasn't too uncomfortable, probably because I have no sense of personal space, and the pressure was more or less constant and evenly distributed, and I wasn't bothered by the noise or anything, the people weren't loud and the sound of fireworks wasn't annoying this time, the explosions never bothered me as they aren't high pitched and the fireworks were too far away to hear the screeching when they are launched which irritates me. The thing that I had problem with was that I couldn't see much through the mass of people, and occasionally someone moved back into me.

How well do you do in large crowds?

That sound like an absolute nightmare to me. I always get to a point where I just want to curl up into a ball and scream, and I have to find a way out before I make a scene.

Can't say it's my favorite scene. If I need to be in one, for whatever reason, I usually have to find a wall or something to lean on or I'm going to pass out.

I don't enjoy large crowds, but I can deal with them at a protest or show, because then I get to shout (either one of the activist chants or lyrics along to a band) and get some of my discomfort out verbally. The worst is if people are constantly lightly brushing past. I'd rather be packed in tight than have that light touch, ugh... just thinking about it makes me squirm.

I like fireworks but I stopped attending them years ago due to the large crowds. It sounds like you handled that very well.

I tend to start freaking out if I am in a large crowd for too long, especially if it's a really thick crowd and I feel like I can't get out of where I am standing or whatever. I have always had issues with that, but I also ended up with PTSD because of an incident at my highschool which makes it even worse.

On top of already being sensative to things like that, I tend to always be in alert mode more or less so being in a place where I don't feel I have easy access to an exit tends to freak me out.
