Not sure what I'm classified as or how to find out
Hi all
First post on here, brief intro:
I’m from South Africa and I suspect I might have some form of Autism, or something close to it.
I’ve been suspecting that something about me has always been somewhat different. First started suspecting as much ever since I’ve entered primary school right up until I’ve graduated high achool. I was always placed in the class with the kindest or most lenient teacher if that makes sense, like I’ve been given some sort of preferential treatment in a way. If this was the case, no one ever informed me why exactly.
I’ve never been anywhere close to being socially adept, and I’ve never been in a serious relationship. I wouldn’t say I cannot identify with anyone else or that I don’t have any empathy, but on most days most people seem like another species, or they all operate differently somehow.
Specific ‘symptoms’ I think I might be described as having if someone else had to offer their opinion:
- Very quiet. I do speak on occasion, but rarely with someone I don’t know. Have to add I am comfortably introverted. Intensely so sometimes.
- Tendency to get lost when focusing on something.
- Been described a couple of times as intelligent. Not quite in agreement on this one.
- Awkward
- Clumsy
- Weird I guess?
None of this really bothers me to be honest, but I’d really like to know if something is indeed different, and if it is, what it is exactly.
Where can I go to get answers? I doubt I can just walk into a GP’s office and ask for a diagnosis?
Thanks
