Diagnosis Received!

So, last week I was officially diagnosed. Not sure what to do with that from here, if anything, the main thing I wanted was confirmation. I found it much easier to obtain than many have said on here, although I find it ridiculous that I had to travel to Sheffield in order to get it - the authorities need to sort out the plans to make diagnosis available everywhere more quickly, if there is need to have services for kids why have they assumed there is no need for adult diagnosis?

The only thing I can think that may be useful to me at the moment is a group meeting with others. I have my Aspie wife who obviously understands but it would be nice to find others we could meet with too, anyone know of a Manchester or North-West England meet?

Yes. Does it never occur to them, that kids become adults and that there have always been kids, who are adults now?

I am in Calderdale and go to a support group here that just started recently. Is Calderdale too far away for you?

Also, I have to ask, because I've been referred to Sheffield as well and I'm nervous, what exactly happened during your appointment? Did you just go to one session? How long did it take? Did you do an ADOS test or anything like that?

Calderdale could be okay, depends where and when. Is it in Halifax or somewhere else?

The diagnosis was much better than I expected, I was in for 2-2.5 hours and just discussed various aspects of life and thoughts, the doctor asked thorough questions so nothing was missed, no test was done. I was immensely anxious to begin with but improved over the course of the session.

I'm glad you have your DX now. I also plan to find out if there is a support group where I live, but one thing is sure, since I was diagnosed last week just like you, I'm now eligible for various kind of services, including therapy (sessions with a psych) and instant help (calling on phone or asking questions by e-mail) if I need one.

(I have a secret plan, maybe I could find someone in a support group to connect my life with.)

It is in Halifax Central Library, once a month on the first Friday of the month. Here is the group's website:
