Hey, Ok I know we are not geneticists, but is it more likely that one NT and one Aspie parent will have an Aspie child? or an NT child?
What about both parents being Aspies? Could they have an NT child.

I'm asking solely out of curiosity, and if I ever do end up meeting someone and getting married, I would ideally like to have one Aspie kid and one NT kid. ( best of both worlds)

It depends I guess on what we know about the genes that may or may not cause Autism and Asperger's.

It is possible for two parents to carry a gene for a particular disorder and not pass it on to the child. I am not an expert on genetics but I think it has to do with dominant and recessive genes etc.

If AS is caused by a single set of recursive genes the answer would no, but that is not the case.

I'm an Aspie man with a toddler daughter, her mom is an NT. So far, there is no indication that she is on the spectrum; she smiles when I smile at her, gets all excited, responds to her name called, or when I hold out a toy she's interested, etc. Of course it is a bit early to rule out high-functioning autism, but I love her very much regardless of what we discover. :D

I just hope she doesn't have to suffer anywhere close to the same cruelty that I went through, but that seems less likely thanks to increased understanding, awareness, acceptance, and treatment.

I don't know scientifically what odds are or anything, all i can share is my knowledge based on my life. My dad has aspergers, mom is an nt. My brother and i both have aspergers, and i know some other relatives on dads side do as well.

It is possible for two NTs who don't have any kind of family history with autism traits other than the dad having Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, dyslexia & ADD to have an Aspie kid(I'm talking about myself here) so I think it should be logical that two Aspies can have an NT kid

IDK, but the likelihood probably increases if their is a family history of mental illness or autism in more than just the parents.

A therapist once told me that my boyfriend and I, who both have Asperger's, might end up having a child who either has Asperger's or is severely autistic. She also said we might want to talk to a doctor before we have kids, to find out whether or not our children will have Asperger's or autism. I mentioned that to him and asked him if he was OK with adopting if there's the possibility of us having children with Asperger's or autism, and he said yes. On the other hand, my parents and sister don't have Asperger's and I do, so I don't really know for sure.

My sister can assumably "pass for NT" but she was very rigid growing up. She was not "born" with the type of pervasive issues that I seemed to have..She looked "normal"..was able to dress and act normally enough to assimilate with other kids and also my "more NT" cousins...Often I would make friends who would end up preferring her over me as friends..BBUT she DOES have issues...she was often more rigid than I was in certain ways...she is just good at assimilating, and more or less rather OBSESSED with assimilating...whereas I chose the path of least resistance..and was too nonconformist to even fit in the the countercultural folk very well

Nope.

It's effectively 100% chance then, rather than 50% for one parent (very, very subclinical females are the ones who pass it on when neither parent appears to have an ASD).

That's going by one of the latest studies on such.

Ok, it looks we need to make all Autistic woman have sex with Autistic men and have lots of babies so we can create a complete study on this subject.

It is possible.

My husband and I are both AS. We have one son who is AS/HFA. We also have a son who is NT. Our younger son is very social, very outgoing, and is definitely NT. He has ADHD, but none of the AS/autistic traits.

You can produce an NT kid and a NT couple can produce an aspie kid its a crap shoot if there is some evidence of autism in your lineage. It might skip a few generations then rear its ugly head in your grand or great grand children. Two aspies might make a low function or some other autism spectrum you do not know what you will get until the child is born.
