The worst of two worlds?
Having a special interest abnormal in intensity but not in focus (to use the DSM/ICD language)?
Why I think that could be the worse of two worlds - you have the disadvantages associated to an ASD; but, if you are interested in a broad issue (like "animals" instead of "tropical fish"; or "history" instead of "the fall or Roman Empire"), you will not have the advantage of can using that as a way of become an expert in an area and make a living with that; yes, you can know much about a general topic, but, when it comes to a specific topic, probably you will don't know more that everybody who have studied or work in that thing.
Btw, I consider himself a person with interests "abnormal in intensity but not in focus" - my special interests (animals and World War II in childhood; politics since adolescence) are relatively common interests (probably, are the most common interests for a nerdish boy of my time and place); in my case, I admit that I have the additional problem of having the worst possible special interest for someone with bad social skills (politics).

For every elected politician, there must be 200 people supporting them in direct or indirect roles. There is no reason why you can't be one of them.
You don't have to kiss babies for a career in politics.
