I have always had issues reading people. I never knew if a guy liked me or if he was abusive and trying to control me. While others could see the signs, I just could never tell. The same goes for other people including family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. I recently was told to read Toxic Parents and Toxic In-Laws because of all the issues I have had. At the beginning I thought it would only help me with my parents, but I have to say that it has GREATLY helped me in understanding those people out there who have made me feel so horrible, although I could not see it and trusted them so much. I highly recommend these books, especially the Toxic Parents, as it will help you see these signs in people that you might miss. I wish I would have read these sooner.

I had one neighbor that was constantly saying things to me that made me mad, although others told me I should get over it. At the same time, some dared say that it was "because I was too sensitive". I have realized that in fact, I am sensitive and I could see this person's behavior all over that Toxic Parent's book.

I hope that some of you who have relationship issues with others out there read these. It will bring you some peace of mind, as well as help you with handling such people.

Thanks for the heads up about these books. Too many people put blinders on, and make excuses for the bad behavior that others dump on them. And then the victim just keeps putting up with being made miserable and angry, when all they have to do is either minimize contact, or end contact completely.

I tend to minimize contact with relatives. I still want some, but not too much, as I can't handle too much contact with them. I hope you are able to turn things around in your bad relationships. :)
