I'm kind of curious as to whether this is an aspie thing or just a Cat thing.

Do you know those "Magic Picture" things, where you stare at them long enough that they eventually kind of blur into a three dimensional image? Does anybody else have a problem with those? In my entire life, I have succeeded in seeing the optical illusion ONCE. I have spent hours staring at them and tried every trick I can think of to trick my eyes into seeing the image, but it's only worked once. That one time-- and it's been around fifteen years since then-- I was able to see the image I was looking at, and when I turned to the other images in the display, I was able to see them.

Since then, Nada.

Maybe it's from wearing glasses for most of my life, or having them around the house for ages, but I actually don't have a problem at all with refocusing my eyes most of the time.

You might be able to practice 'exercises' to do them? /musing

Test:
Image

You want to merge each coloured dot with the dot of the same colour by refocusing your eye. I can only really go down to purple, and almost pink, but it's awfully close there.

Then, on an actual stereogram, they often have two small black squares at the bottom you can merge the same way to get the picture. If not, the principal is still the same, finding 2 identicle points on the image, of which there are going to be a ton, and pushing them together until the picture makes sense.

Not sure if that will help. Best of luck.

there are physical reasons why you can't see the image, and there is list at Magic Eye. Dyslexia is one of them. I only found because my husband refused to look at the site the other day and said it hurts and he only rarely see the image. He's dyslexic. I can see it fine and love looking at them. After doing it for a while, I don't even have to try.

Actually, I have the same problem. Maybe it is just the glasses, etc... With sophists avatar, can you see the young woman, and the old hag? Just curious. It IS a different thing, and I CAN see them, but it may be similar.

Never once seen the image you're supposed to see. Unfocused my eyes til I was cross-eyed and wall-eyed, still nothing.
I'm not dyslexic that I'm aware of... unless you can somehow be hyperlexic and dyslexic simultaneously.

I loved those "Magic Eye" books when I was a kid. These days though my eyes are getting bad (Yes I do wear glasses) and it took me a lot of training to be able to see the images. Probably wouldn't be able to pull it off today.

I have a lot of trouble seeing them too. I don't see many optical illusions. My problem is I have eidetic memory, and people with eidetic memory often don't see optical illusions the same way as other people, which usually means we process images more literally so to miss the "illusion."

Nope, I can't do them. Not sure if its an Aspie thing, I've got a damaged eye so it could be because of that.

Yep, and I can choose which one I'm seeing.

I haven't tried it for years, but I was able to see the 3D image fairly easily. Made it easier for me if I crossed my eyes first.

I can never see them.
The best I ever could do is see some sort of line or basic shape, which disappear when I try to follow the edges.
They also seem to go inwards rather than outwards.

I can always see them, although if it's something to fool the sight I can usually see past them as well if I look at it properly. Generally if there's "two" ways to look at it, I can see both of them pretty easily. I think it's related to the way I manipulate numbers and concepts; I feel the same "juggling" sensation in my head when I practice all three concepts.

I have never been able to see them, and quite frankly, I'm glad that the fad is over.

When I was younger, I couldn't see them, but now I can occasionally. The problem for me is that my eyes do not voluntarily cross themselves, so I have to focus at a point in space several inches behind where the picture is and try it that way.
