What is the most important thing you've forgotten?

This week I walked out of a class without handing in the take-home exam I had in my backpack that I had worked on for a week. I came in a few mins late (very common in this grad school class, even for the professor) and missed the turn-in "cue" at the beginning. When it was time to leave I asked a classmate about another assignment, and then apparently got caught up in the mental demands of conversation or zoned out in the same way I stand in the shower for 5 minutes washing the same spot staring into space, only to forget to wash this or that by the time I get out. Something non-NT brought me to a level of dementia where I forget something that important. I had nothing tremendously stressful that would have brought that about with most people. Because of my grad school's grading scale, I may fail this very expensive, career-important course by losing half the exam points. The professor was been skeptical (even though I emailed it to him as soon as I got home from class) to the point that I'm tapping my diagnoses to explain something this stupid. Anyway, that's mine. What's yours?

Just recently I forgot to fill out my Exam Pass. Yes, that's right, we need PASSES to get into our exams! Is that stupid or what!?! They even monitor how long it takes for us to go to the toilet!! ! Anyway, I promptly filled it out and handed it in the next day.

There was also a time when I left for school but I forgot to put my underwear on. Don't worry, I was wearing pants (pervert...), and I only realised it the next time I sat down, which was on the bus.

There was also a time when I forgot to take my socks and singlet off when taking a bath as a kid.

I forgot where I live. A stressful day. I found my apartment building, then hung around in the lobby till I remembered my apartment number.

Guess what guys! That happens to EVERYONE!! !! !! I remember when I was a kid, and it would happen sometimes. It happens to me NOW sometimes. I have seen it happen to MANY! It isn't an Autistic related problem.

Freud wrote an ENTIRE BOOK about the whys and hows. I even got a copy in the original German! It has a LOT of reasons.

BTW it turns out that apparantly you can't really access the brain directly. Because of that, too many thoughts can kind of cause others to get lost. You may just have been so preoccupied that it "slipped your mind".

As for the professor, just tell the truth. There is no reason to bring Autism into the picture.

BTW as for the shower, I do that like driving the car. It is almost like my subconcious takes over. My concious mind is left to do other things(Like kick me for forgetting whatever yesterday, and prod me into remembering it today!)

I forgot the most important thing....but one of the most embarrassing recurring ones...is buying some thing at the store and then walking out without it....is it worth going back to get, usually.

While it's true that everybody forgets things(huge market for day planers)I do think it is more likely when you are stressed by social situations and trying to multi-task.The normal distracting thoughts (should I pick up some milk)are added to....did I say something weird, what am I supposed to say now,why dont they put a muzzle on that screeching little monster,my back itches,my mouth tastes like a rhino puked in it...how much for those...thought they were oon sale....is it 2006 or 7?

I've nearly forgotten who I was, when I was between obsessions, between the summer of 2004 and most of 2005.

I have lots of lists around so I don't forget things, things to do etc and I'm hopeless at remembering birthdays so I put them all on my calender.
The thing I forget the most is who is alive and who is dead. Not people I know but actors and politicians etc. I've not heard about for a while. It's not really important, but it feels a bit strange.

Two miles of Cornish coastline.

Walked several years before, I was certain the slip road to the ferry was next to a particular pub. I would have confidently so directed anyone who asked.

Returning to the same place, I discovered the ferry road was exactly as I pictured it. And also the pub. But they were at least two miles apart.

I can't trust my memory, then. Now that's a little troubling, to put it mildly.

In a very important customers case I wrote a SQL query that was flawless that I simply forgot to press enter to execute. Fortunately for me, assisting engineer that knows my pecularities hit the enter button after I left the keyboard. Just forgot to press enter. He covered my ass.

I have been standing and trying to understand other kids ability to learn how to swim, and after some watching, I just swimmed 200m to the teachers astonishment. Then I forgot how to do it again, and almost drowned because I got distracted.

I've walked two weeks to my work with a broken foot bone. When I decided it probably was something wrong, they threw me into a complete emergency procedure of Xrays, and then ended up with a plaster up to the knee in intensive care fashion, the amount of pain that bone should render normaly is intense, I just felt uncomfortable. I got a team of about 8 people taking care of me.

When taking my drivers license I took about one lesson, and almost killed myself for a engine stop. It wasn't anything dangerous, but I just couldn't stand having a engine stop in a car I wasn't familiar with on exams day. I've been driving since the age of 12. The only accident by the way I've ever caused with 19 years of driving license is a mistake when going to the hospital and got a epileptic attack, and smashed two cars. I was going there because of a quite serious head injury, later diagnosed to be the cause of the EP. I felt like s**t, went to the police even, to ask if it would make a recall of my license. They just stared at me and looked at me as I was a idiot, and explained that it was an emergency medical condition.

I'm one of the few people around here doing SMD repairs. Once when working, I didn't do my double-check of soldering and I completely fried a motherboard. My boss didn't even count it as a issue, but for me it was personal failure that realy hurt my spirits. I forgot something I've been doing since ice-age!

I know I've forgotten something really, really important at one point in my life, but I can't quite remember what it is...

once, while my dad was at a motorcycle rally ( my parents ride BMW's) i realised that i hadn't gotten my mom a b-day present, and her birthday was the next day... luckily, i called my mom to have her pick up a frame for me (without me telling her what it was for) i then typed up a poem for her in computer class.

No one has topped my $3k and hundreds of hours of labour lost for just forgetting one thing. Get it together!

I've got to think that not everyone reaches this level of forgetfulness. I think it does have something to do with the additional stress my brain endures with social, motor or scheduling matters. Sure, many people do it but they're usually under great amounts of stress or in old age when they have fewer brain cells to handle the load. Turns out mentioning a diagnosis may have led my professor from ever replying to me, out of fear of touching on a sensitive university-policy issue. I did not want to introduce that kind of potential adversarily relationship when I'm getting graded, but I went with my mom's advice and let him know very politely that he wasn't dealing with some NT trying to pull on baseless labels/reasons to skirt the rules.
