The character from The Catcher in the Rye, that is.

I've been thinking of how people who had autism before we knew autism even existed might have coped with the world. I'm rereading The Catcher in the Rye right now, and I realized that this character has autistic traits.

Is there anyone here with Aspergers/Autism who remember living before humanity knew autism existed? I would like to know how life was before you knew about it.
