A few years ago (2007 to about early 2009, probably), I was pretty bad, but now, I am somewhat "Normal", but just more or less a loner, and be by myself in my room.

Until I came here (not literally  ) I had no idea what "stim's" were.

I also barely have mental's or particularly freak out any more. I more or less "go with the flow" and take each day as it comes. More or less a f**k everything attitude.

I occasionally have a mental breakdown and get extremely depressed (once every month or so even though i'm on depression medication) but apart from that, I must say, I'm doing well.

Anyone improved over the years?

Yes, certainly.

At age 4, I didn't understand that other people liked me to interact with them.

At 8, I couldn't hold a conversation.

At 12, I lectured endlessly without conversational give-and-take.

At 18, I held awkward, stop-and-go conversations.

At 25, I interrupted constantly.

And at 29, I'm finally learning to detect pauses and reply to implied information, though I am still noticeably awkward.

And that's just with conversation. There are many other things I've been learning over the years.

Yes and no.

My social awareness was worse as a child, but, then again, my parents were content to allow me to be eternally silent and not interact with anyone.

As an adult who is now responsible for myself, my difficulties are becoming much more....difficult to manage.

I can't hide from the world anymore.

Yes, you have a good point there. I am, objectively, more disabled as an adult than as a child, because the expectations of me are higher and depend more on skills which I'm not very good at. But my skills in general have steadily increased.

I believe that, had I received useful therapy as a child, I might have been more prepared for independence as an adult. As it is, I'm not fully independent and probably will never be.

That sounds like me. I feel like now in my 30s I'm beginning to understand how I'm wired, how others are wired and how that affects our interaction. Granted I had to figure most of it out on my own. As for the obsessions and stims ect, I think that it's gotten only mildly better only because I have less energy these days.

With me it helped the most to learn that I had AS. Before that I made adjustments just to go along to get along but didn't always know why.
Once I found out what was wrong and that some of the things I just wasn't seeing I've been able to make better adjustments and to know why they are necessary.
I can never be quite as well adjusted as I'd like to be, though.

Not really.

-Throughout school my peers developed socially whereas I stayed the same

-all other symptoms stayed pretty much the same (the big one I gained in though was my verbal ability improved immensely over a couple of years in early schooling)

-more expectations and a greater likelihood of stressful events as you age equates to abilities being exceeded; it's easy being 12 when 12 is all that's expected. It's hard to be an adult when all you are is 12

and then:

at age 40 things got worse

at age 45 total burn out

at age 50 game over… no more energy left. total isolation.
