I'm going to NYC tomorrow with my dad, siblings and 6 month old puppy. Any advice for living through the busy streets, loud sounds and poeple?

What will you be doing, and where will you be? Parts of NYC are not that loud or congested (not moreso than other cities at least).

I live in New Jersey which is pretty close to NYC obviously...i am not sure if their is much you can do to avoid the sounds of manhattan. Why are you bringing a 6 month old puppy though? to find solace i would suggest going into central park.

Central park was great and some of the others. Would recommend sunglasses and something soothing to play with in your jacket pocket (My lucky rock). Also found a chance to escape in some of the little cafe's (diners) and niche shops that are around. Not sure about the puppy though it'll be terrified?

My excitement got me through it though, was on an extrovert rush for a lot of it.

One thing I loved about the trips I made to New York City by myself (and I usually HATE going on trips by myself!) ... there are SO many people that you feel completely unnoticed. Which I kind of thought was a good thing.

Yes. I loved going to New York City, because there were so many people that it seemed that no one paid attention to me. I didn't have to pretend to be like other people. And there were so many interesting things.

It was also really nice that even though there is a lot of food that I won't eat there are so many restaurants that it always seems easy to get foods that I like, and a lot of the food is really cheap but still good.

And the streets are laid out as a grid, so it's easy to navigate.

And using the subways to get around is really quick and easy.

Central Park is very pretty and very nice. It's neat to stand on the edge of Central Park, because on one side of the street there are really tall buildings and on the other side it looks like a forest.

Here are some really pretty images of Central Park.

Not only all of that, but New York City has so many people that there are a lot of types of jobs that people can get there that aren't available in other places. I hope I can move to New York City early next year.

Im bringing my puppy because shes my service dog in training. Service dogs are my obessiona and I decided to train my service dog myself so I sort of have to take her with me. But she tends to add more stress because shes a puppy.

I LOVE going into manhattan..everything is laid out and by now I know the city grid pretty easily. Also know the subway somewhat to be able to manuever around. I think the MET on the upper east side is the perfect place for an Aspie...the museum is right next to the park, its mostly quiet and its spread out.

I think you will be overwhelmed considering your age and i would guess, your first trip ever to new york city. But I think at the end of the day you will appreciate it. I hope you have a good time. What your planned sites to see?

I think your right. Im not sure what we are going to see. My dad hasnt told me the plan yet. Im nervuse though because Im relying on a 6 month old service dog in training to keep me from running away or walking into traffic or freaking out.

I've been in New York a little while now, since I'm visiting someone. Since I've been here, I've had awful anxiety and panic attacks from some of the stores we went to. Manhattan was by far the worst experience, but I think it just takes some getting used to. That hasn't been happening as much, though, thankfully. It's especially busy on weekends, for obvious reasons. My advice is just to try to stay as calm as possible and take breaks when you need to if you can't cope with the city. Don't keep going if you're starting to feel overwhelmed; find a calmer place and relax.

I grew up in NY...
Very loud and chaotic, but lots of fun stuff to see.
I'd recommend taking a trip to the Museum of Natural History if you're into that sort of thing.
It's one of my favorite places.

Also, as someone mentioned, it is crowded and busy, and no one pays attention to you.
Heck I've seen people dressed up as Mickey and Minnie mouse, there's the Naked Cowboy, amongst other stuff.
No one bats an eye.

When I used to work in NYC I would always wear dark sunglasses and walk around with my ipod.
Especially on the trains.
That way the noises are filtered out and I don't have to worry about accidentally making eye contact with anyone.

NY is also full of parks. On my breaks from work I used to go to a nearby park and just sit and relax to recover from the overstimulation throughout the day.
I'm not going to lie, the chaos is stressful even for a native Aspie New Yorker.

On a positive note,
Central Park is great too.
There's so much to do and see.
I hope you enjoy your visit :D
