I've been thinking, for a while, about wearing dark sunglasses literally all the time. I hate eye contact and I figure that if I wear sunglasses it would help me directly look at people in the eye when talking to people. I was thinking that it might help me enough that one day I could kind of ween myself off the glasses and then start doing it for real without them on.
However, in England, wearing dark sunglasses all the time is not easy to get away with. Generally this country has terrible weather and I think people would think I'm weird if I literally wore them all the time (even when it is raining or in supermarkets and stuff). I also think my friends would lay into me a bit about it. But I really wanna try it out!
I actually think wearing sunglasses all the time would help me considerably!
Has anybody ever tried this or actually does this all the time?

I have also considered this. It's summer in New England, so it wouldn't be weird. Eye contact makes me insanely twitchy, I feel like they others are stealing my soul, or at best, sizing me up.

I wear my 1727 A.D. sunglasses when ever I drive anywhere, but that idea sounds good.

I look at the third eye (forehead) when someone wants to make eye contact, it seems to work for me.

I can't do this during winter, because then there is not enough light for me to be comfortable seeing things, however during summer I pretty much live in my sunglasses. I have prescription glasses with a grade 3 black tint (indoors). I also have reflective sports sunglasses (outdoors). My motivation for wearing them is sensory issues with light, however I also have problems with eye contact and feel much more comfortable interacting with someone with sunglasses on (especially the reflective ones). I can make or avoid eye contact as I want and look whereever I want without the other person reading incorrect things into the fact I am not looking at them (just got to keep my head directed at them). However some people think it is odd to wear sunglasses inside, I think it's easier to get away with wearing tinted prescription glasses inside.

I wear sunglasses indoors/outdoors year round. My eyes are extremely light sensitive. Some houses are dark enough to be comfortable and uncomfortable with the glasses on... in that instance I simply take them off until they are needed again.

As for looking people in the eye with them - I don't recall my glasses helping with that... but maybe that is just me... I still resort to looking at a temple, ear or mouths.

I wear my sunglasses cuz I'm super sensitive to light. I don't know about you but when I make eye contact it makes me feel all jittery like there reading my thoughts or something. So sunglasses don't help that much.

I live is Seattle; we're notorious for cloudy weather and rain. I still wear my sunglasses all the time. I'll even wear them indoors if the lights are too bright.

Yes, I get some weird looks. No one has ever mentioned it though.

Get a hat as well. Hoodies feel super snug, and can be worn when sunnies are inappropriate, like indoors at night

Eye contact can be reduced with hair, and just plain old head down posture can be learnered

Or a woolen hat :D
Also reduce eye contact by having something else like a sports game, or a phone or something to look at. Bit unsocial though

I already wear sunglasses about 80% of the time I am outdoors and about 30% of the time that I'm indoors (but not at home)and no one has ever thought it was strange. It helps a lot with eye contact (when I want to be able to memorize a face) .... and lack thereof, when I don't want someone to get upset when I'm not looking at them while he/she is talking to me.

The only people who comment about me wearing sunglasses a lot of the time are my mother and sister.

I get that as well sometimes - I give a sly remark if I feel like it. Or I vehemently deny that I'm wearing sunglasses.

I wish I could wear sunglasses, but I have to wear prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses seem expensive, and there's not much of a range that I like in the opticians :(

You could consider getting normal prescription glasses tinted?

I don't like those. I think they look ridiculous. I had them before when I was younger when I had no say in it and my parents kept choosing the tinted glasses, and they looked ugly on me.
