I know a lot of people absolutely love these shows but they just seem painfully stupid to me.

I've seen The Office once and thought it to be rather stupid and pointless.

I've never heard of Parks and Rec. Is it about the same thing?

I never watched that show and I do admit once in awhile I like something pretty silly if I am in the right mood. For example, the show Reno 911.

I used to really like these shows. They were *WERE* really funny, but they became very lackluster after so many seasons. I enjoyed them for the way the characters interact and the comedy. The earlier seasons of mentioned shows in this thread are good background noise now, not something I'd spend my time sitting down and watching anymore..

I may be wrong, but I think The Office and Parks & Recreation are made by some of the same people. One of the main characters from The Office I believe seasons three-four is even on Parks & Rec now.

I like some of the Office episodes; better than other shows on lately. I don't watch it anymore though; it got quite old after a while.

I've seen the pilot episode of "The Office" and a couple other episodes, and I thought it was a pretty funny show. :D That one guy (keep forgetting his name) who keeps stealing people's desk stuff and encasing them in Jello molds is funny.

I do enjoy some of the quotes and jokes and what not, but I rarely watch seasons of shows as I get tired of long arching story lines. I want things solved in a single episode.

My favorite show right now is Monk.

I used to watch The Office periodically. I found it amusing, but rarely laugh-out-loud funny.

When I first watched The Office (when it first came out) I didn't understand it, but a few years later, I found it funny and it has become one of my favorite shows. Parks and Rec is also funny, though I've only seen a few episodes.

I've found 30 Rock a bit more interesting...

This being since if you're actually able to get ALL the references then you are a friggin genius!

Earlier in the series, The Office was hilarious. People here should love it as one of the main characters is an Aspie (Dwight) and the other an undiagnosed ADD/BPD type (Michael).

The original British series is also very funny.

Tried watching the office once years ago and just couldnt relate to it in anyway. So I never watched it again.

Maybe I shouldve given it more of a chance- but even then Im sure that whatever humor the show had was better in its early seasons and has since faded. So there is no point in returning to it now. I probably missed it at its best by now anyway- even I had to the potential for liking it.

Haha, I thought he was an aspie as well. Recently, a couple WP members actually reminded me of him due to their behavior, it gave me a little chuckle.

Fot some time I have thought that David Brent ( UK Office, Ricky Gervais ) may have Asperger's.

I'm not a really big fan of mockumentary-style comedy shows about office politics. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell are both incredibly talented comedians, but I think mockumentaries have to be done just right or else they run the risk of their characters taking themselves too seriously and coming across as tedious, insufferable bores who completely lack any sort of self-awareness. Some amount of that is to be expected-- that is from whence the humour is supposed to come-- but if the character is too dull or tedious, it will only end up driving audiences away, because why should a viewer be expected to care about a character like that? In the weeks running up to the London Olympics, the Comedy Network here began showing episodes of the British series Twenty Twelve. In my view it suffered much from the same problem-- the humour was so dry and the characters themselves were so flat and humourless that I felt no connection to them whatsoever.

I suppose the humour might be more relatable to white collars and yuppies who've got to put up with mundane office BS day in, day out in real life-- but it strikes no chords in me.
