Ive recently moved to the SF bay area 2 months ago. Since then i've discovered AS and since i finally know why im not good at making friends i would like to be around people like me and help me not feel home sick.

So does anyone in this area know of any support groups in the Bay area?

MeloJag, I like the cadence of your username, it seems familiar somehow. I have gone 3 out of the last 4 months to the M.I.N.D. Institute on the first Teusday of the month at 7:00 PM. If you are interested let me know. Edit forget to mention, it's in Sacramento.

I recently moved back to the Bay Area after being in other places for a couple of decades. I have noticed that there are a few SF-based ASD support groups. There's one called Autastics and one called AASCEND (not sure I got those exactly right). They both have websites, but the sites don't provide much info, except when and where the monthly meetings are.

I'm looking for a doctor in the area who has some familiarity with AS in adults (and ideally charges less than $700 for an evaluation!). I got diagnosed in Texas, but I need a doctor here so I can give my school the documentation that they need. No, I'm not seeking any super cushy accommodations - just getting the AS on file in case it becomes relevant in the future.

EvilKimEvil, the Doctor that I saw might either give you a sliding scale based on income, or she does deal with Insurance (like you can get those bastards to give any back). As an alternative, you can get in touch with UCSF Autism clinic. PM me if you want the Doctors phone number.

There's a group called AUTASTICS that my brother goes to in the bay area.

I think they have a website at autastics.org.

Hello,

Has anybody experienced difficulties contacting AASCEND?

AASCEND's telephone number (415) 248-1670 only responds with a recorded message to call back at another time; that is calling back at later times still yields the same recorded message! Emails also go unanswered.

Can anybody acquainted with the AASCEND agency please bring this to the attention of AASCEND?

Thank-you

Hello,

Update to my previous post:

Has anybody reached (or tried to reach) AASCEND regarding incorrect email/telephone contact information?

I've updated the previous post because the topic of incorrect contact information is too important to "get lost in the shuffle" of the 'General Autism Discussion' Forum.

With the means of communications available i.e, phone/Internet related, it is surprising that communcations can become so difficult.

It is hard enough to raise awareness of Aspergers, and even harder to determine just how to assist the Aspergers community! Hence, why must agencies like AASCEND, and inviduals concerned with Aspergers (who make it their business to understand Aspergers) be further handicapped by basic communications?

Please bring this to the attention of AASCEND -- so they can reassess their communications, and post workable contact information.

Thank-you

What is AUTASTICS Adam Pollack's email?

Just listened to Marty Nemko's show on the Internet. Anybody attend the the Saturday Sept. 15th AASCEND meeting regarding career development?
