Phobia of corpses

Hi, i have a situation, i am micmac native aboriginal and a tradition when a family member dies is to stay with the body, some one ALWAYS has to be with the body before burial and so its my turn first .__. what should i do? i have a very big fear of corpses

Ask yourself why you are afraid of corpses

Have someone stay with you. That way you can show respect for tradition and be supported.
Did you know the person?
It can be distressing to see a family member's remains.
I have cared for many people as they died, and there is truly nothing left behind to be afraid of.

Can't you pass your responsibilities to the another family member?

I also have a very intense fear of corpses. To me, corpses represent death and that's not something that I wish to think about for another 60 years. I wish to think about life for my next 6 decades and than I'll start thinking about death.

Just out of interest, I had no idea what you meant by "micmac" so I Googled it. It's actually spelled Mi'kmaq (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mi%27kmaq_people). Just thought you might want to ensure you know the correct way so as not to offend anyone in your community.

It's interesting that you have a username Zombie.. but you are scared of corpses. I don't blame you for being scared - I thought everyone except funeral directors and medical people were (and murderers).

I don't think they can force you to be with the body, just say you have a medical condition which makes you easily phobic and you can't do it. Even if they are angry with you or feel that you are letting them down, better than having to sit with a dead body.

most humans have a fear and aversion to corpses. It liely 'naturally' comes because corpses bring disease, and corpseses on the ground represent/suggest a risk for humans in the area so other humans should leave before being turned into corpses themselves.

Similar to I guess some humans' primal fear of snakes or 'sticks on the ground' (LOL IT LOOKS LIKE A SNAKE RUN).
