I want to know what you think about me having aspergers.

First off I have memories from about two years of age.
I have been what other people call "shy" my entire life even though I was abused, but I've just had no idea how to interact with people. I don't even care about the abuse although my counselor thinks it's horrid and I don't understand...

I have had very few close friends growing up.
Teen years I got arrested a couple times because I wanted friends and I had no figure to show me right from wrong.

I took an IQ test in high school after my naughtiness, and my IQ would have been really good except my emotional intelligence was at the level of a kindergartener I think, my short term memory was sketchy as well.

I have never been able to do small talk I don't understand it, but I can go on for hours and hours about music, space, or the human brain.
I've enjoyed making "contraptions" since I was a kid since I saw it on blues clues.

I've worked two jobs where I was able to stand still for around 3 hours periods, then for 8 hours and just grind non-stop at high speeds, I actually found it relaxing except for the people I had to deal with.

I can hear people talk and sounds from far away and they piss me off soo much, and also going to live shows sounds just block out any thoughts I might have it's like throwing something into a circulating thought process that just f***s it up.

I have problems with eye contact and getting out coherent thoughts when there is a lot of noise around me.

I could go on and on but I'll stop there, thanks a lot.

the trouble with eye contact and low emotional intelligence sound like aspergers. here's a test based on the guidelines docs use to diagnose AS: www.iautistic.com/test_AS.php

If these are difficulties you would like assistance with, and especially if you're feeling depressed or anxious, you can always speak to a doctor about it. Just a regular general practitioner is best place to start. They will ask you some questions too, sort of a preliminary screening about what your primary troubles are. Figure out how they can best provide assistance to you.

It's more important to pick out the things that are causing trouble for you and seek out help for those. What you may or may not be diagnosed with officially is a lesser concern.

take care, okay? best place to find answers specific to you is the professionals who can see and interact with you in person/perform the appropriate testing if needed.

Are you asking if we think you sound like you have Asperger's or not?

It's probably not wise to try and get a diagnosis off a forum. It might be that people here are more inclined to see Asperger's because it was the case for us. Or the complete opposite may be true. Comparing yourself to other people with Asperger's can help you get an idea of whether you've things in common with them, but shouldn't make up your mind for you. You'd really need to see a doctor and, if they think there's a problem, get referred to a specialist for diagnosis. That should be something you'd do with caution: having an official diagnosis of a mental illnes can have consequences you may not want, though it can have benefits too (access to help, allows you and those around you to understand you better, etc.), and sometimes it's simply necessary because it's the reality of the situation.

Keep in mind that a lot of Asperger's traits occur in people without Asperger's too. It's sometimes a matter of severity and number of traits. If you look hard enough, there are quirks in everybody that you can medicalise if you're inclined too. But sometimes it's more clear cut and there's obviously something different about a person. Sometimes it's just obvious that they fit the Asperger's diagnosis. And sometimes it can end up coming down to the subjective interpretation of one professional verses another, and I guess then it's about finding whether accepting the diagnosis works for you and which professional you trust is understanding you best.

Now that I think of it I've been told to see a specialist by every counselor/ school psychologist I've talked to, I just couldn't find the funds so I was put on add medication adderall made me insane but concerta is doing better, yet I still have all the symptoms of aspergers.

hi finger,

unfortunately meds don't help much with ASD-like specific stuff. they only help for other offshoot problems, such as depression/anxiety/ocd/mania/paranoia/trouble concentrating/trouble sleeping etc.

glad the Concerta is helping you a bit.
