Hello, I am new to this site and have been reading a lot about different types of autism and Asperger's (sp). After many, many hours of reading and whatnot, ive come to the conclusion that (is) and could have been my problem for a long, long time.
I am currently 37 and while a young teenager (13) I was attacked and beaten nearly to death by a group of older teens that took advantage of me , to rob me for my shoes, coat, money, etc. Which was neglected by the principal of the school at the time, who, with help of the school board swept it under the rug. Akron Ohio.
(she was a real c**t, mean, despicable, hated kids, made comments that she suspends kids that have behavioral issues, because she doesn't want to deal with them) type of person, and I was one of those children she neglected and abused.
After the robbery and beating, I don't recall how, but I made it back to the school and she immediately told me to leave the school, I was bloody, black and blue, in a state of confusion and I don't recall much after that. Its bits and pieces.
She never called police, ambulance, just my dad and told him to get me the hell outa her school.
My mother contacted the aclu, naacp, state senators, congress rep, etc.. no one would even hear her out.
I myself have made calls to such organizations as well as my state reps, told to contact other agencies, but never got anywhere and no one took any interest. (because it was black on white crime for the most part) I hate to say it, but it was prevalent in the 90s as well, slap on the wrist for the thugs and let the poor disabled boy suffer the injuries so we don't have to deal with it attitude.
As a child I was difficult, I know. I had a lot of issues socially and was the constant brunt of a lot of bullying by other kids my age and older, since as far back as I can remember.
I am also hearing impaired and because I couldn't hear well, i'd be called names, picked on, beat on, pissed on, taken advantage of, you get the idea.
But after I was attacked at 13, I got ALOT worse. Uncontrollable outburst, violent, mean, major memory issues, that get worse as time goes by, unempathetic toward others, fixated, depressed, suicidal, just all around in a terrible way, I was.
My family in their ignorance just made excuses for me, blamed me, constantly, told me i'll grow out of it, etc..
I was also attacked by another group of teens at the age of 17, and nearly died from the attack.
Took those teens to criminal court and they received 30 day probations I believe and the prosecutor said, don't bother suing, you wont get anything outa these bums.
The hospitals didn't do any scans, my head was swollen like a watermelon, no joke. Looked like a f****n black eyed pumpkin for a week or so after each attack, I went through.
So, ive went these years with a lot of frustration and just torment.
I found out at the age of 33 I had MAJOR brain damage but do not know the severity of it, due to my insurance not covering the doctor I was seeing and cannot get those records from the doctor that told me I have that problem.
I have most of the symptoms of someone with autism/ashbergers syndrome/brain damage/ventromedial prefrontal cortex damage, I believe.
I have suffered night terrors, I rarely sleep, I have constant migraines, dream reoccurrences of those incidents, depression, ptsd, anxiety, major depression, i have no energy, I avoid most social situations because I'm scared it'll happen again. I live in fear, I'm up and down, I have speech issues, slurring, trouble focusing, I'm habitual, rigid in my ways, so to speak, I do the same routines, very I guess. ocd ?
I have social issues, I swear a lot, don't recognize others feelings, I rarely if ever make any eyecontact with anyone, all of it just seems to fit the spectrum I guess.
Anyway, onto it, what can I do? Ive tried everything I can and cant get anywhere due to statue of limitations, lack of an attorney, cant get anyone in any legal aid or anything to take this seriously, I usualy get hung up on, or told nothing they can do, no explanation etc.
And that is from major organizations that are supposed to help with these issues and they do not and its frustrating to say the very least.
Ive tried the local mental heath place, but was removed because I was too angry, they said.. yeah, really....
I have social awkwardness and they stuck me with a group of drug addicts to talk about what happened..yet never let me talk about my issues, more or less I sat there listening to a bunch of drug addicts crying about mundane issues that were easily solvable if they'd stop the drugs, but.. and then said I was too angry and removed me from the program.
My condition is getting worse, I'm unemployable, I have no income and how am I to care for me? after someone (s)else caused this?
My understanding is statue of lims don't apply in cases like this, but cant get anyone to listen or even remotely take me seriously.
Ive run a long road and I fear I'm nearly at the end of it, I cant keep going on like this, I'm a total wreck and no one seems to believe me, or they just make an excuse (friends/family) and tell me get over it, s**t happens.
How, do you go though life after someone (s) ruined it and being told to f**k of and get over it?
I'm tired, I'm pissed, I'm trying to stuff it all down, so to speak, and its just a constant in my life I guess.
Constant disregard for my rights by the system that is supposed to protect them makes me even more, I guess pissed off.
So I came across this forum and , I dunno, anyone have any experience with issues like this?
I dunno, kinda last ditch effort to ask on here, but thought it couldn't hurt.
There is so much more to add, but I just wanted to give a summary as best I could.
Thanks.
Sorry for the longetivity of the post, but its a lot of compiled .. s**t..

First off, none of these issues have been your fault. From what you've said, it's clear that you have been the victim of several awful circumstances, and despite that, you've managed to handle it far more maturely than most people would. Even if you are on the spectrum, that is no excuse for how you've been treated. I'd like to say that it is very inspiring to hear how you continue to make it through your life despite everything that has happened. I'm only 22, so I won't be able to help as far as legal situations go, but I'm sure there are people on this site that can help with that. Your best bet is to find someone with connections that is willing to help out.

You mentioned having brain damage, and I'm far from being an expert on that, but it seems that it has not effected your ability to convey your thoughts clearly. You also have a very good understanding of how to solve the issues that you face. That being said, it seems that the only obstacles in your way are a lack of people who are willing or caring enough to make an effort to help, and the fact that the system has ignored someone that it was designed to benefit. Another possibility is that the geographical location you live in may not be the best environment for you. It might be worth looking into moving to an area that has better standards for helping people in your situation, although I understand affordability might be an issue.

It seems that the anger you feel is very well placed, and you have chosen the 'healthy' option of expressing it when needed. It's best not to bottle up your anger, despite it being the socially acceptable way to handle it. As it turns out, although it did get you removed from a few places, expressing your anger has helped you stay on track with trying to resolve the issues you face. Your persistence and determination are the best tools at your disposal, and it's great to hear that you haven't given up.

I'm sorry that I can't provide the exact help you're looking for, but it does sound like you could use someone who actually wants to help in any way possible. The best I can do is try to guide you in the right direction, and I really hope that you find people with more connections than me. I would like to hear more, and I do have a few ideas on what you can do, and it would help to have a bit more information in the areas of what your interests are and what attempts you've made at employment.

On a side note, you might get more attention if you post this to the forum 'The Haven' on this site. There are plenty of people on this site that are willing and possibly able to provide you with the help you need.
