I've never been good with expressing emotions (other than joy or annoyance), except when it comes to watching TV.

In real life I could seriously hurt myself, or get get bad news of some sort... and just have little or no reaction. I just go into "logic mode".
But..... when I watch TV or a Movie I will actually cry in relation to character misfortune. Something I rarely do in real life.

Does anyone else have Reality vs TV emotional reaction differences. Or is it just me?

I definitely have it. In real life I can read happiness, sadness, anger, and shock. Sometimes confusion. I never realized until lately that I've never seen more than that. And that's usually all the emotions I can draw without reference.

In tv although I often can't name them I see an incredible range of tiny emotions. Eyebrows lifting, eyes darting, smirks. I think it's because the characters aren't talking to me and I can look at their entire face/eyes and I can pause/repeat when I don't understand jokes. The more I rewatch an episode the more I see (I don't catch everything the first time).

Strangely with books I have a hard time imagining faces unless the book has a movie, keeping track of them all is close to impossible, and I can rarely imagine their expressions unless again, the book has a movie.

Edit: And yes, if I can relate I get all emotional. But if I can't, it's like I can put on their shoes but not their thoughts, so I don't feel anything. If theirs animals involved I'll cry like a baby. I hated Disney movies of animals as a child because of this reason.

Movies/books are pretty much the only things that can make me cry... excluding irl frustration.

It's easier in tv. Because there is music and.such to set the tone. That doesn't happen in real life.

I.can go.to funeral with little emotion. But become.more emotional over YouTube clip.
