Alexis Wineman is a brave and talented young woman who is open about being on the autism spectrum. She competed and won the title for Miss Montana. And although she did not win the Miss America pageant, she did win the online competition for America's Choice.

I think this is pretty big. This is a good step forward.

She shows that we on the spectrum can do all kinds of things, including social activities (I myself have patchy skills). Her talent was a comedic monologue, and her platform was "Normal is Just a Dryer Setting"---Living With Autism.

See also this youtube video of Alexis.

I have to say, for her to make it as far as she did is quite an outstanding accomplishment. She's one of my new heroes. I hope more people are aware of autism thanks to her wonderful work. Autism should not stop anyone from achieving their goals (including myself, who wants to be the first person on the spectrum elected to political office here in the US).

Oh, I think there have been other people on the spectrum elected in the US with Thomas Jefferson being an early example. Your claim to fame will be the first person who is openly on the spectrum to be elected in the US.
