Before I ask my question, I wish to describe the situation I have been involved on my way to school.

My mother and I had an heated opinion debate that turned quickly into a sour argument. It had to do with one of Quebec's law (Law 14, about French language being dominantly apparent on signs, restaurant menus, written publicities etc.), which I find rather ridiculous.

My perception of this law is rather very pessimistic, since I tend to think how abusive it will become with the following years, because that's how human nature is... or maybe I should say politician's nature? They will try to find any excuses to add and pile up to apply such law on other things. It may sound like paranoia, but that's just how I "see" it and I wouldn't be surprised if it were to happen.

Somehow, my mother thinks I am exagerrating ( I told her that since now the law wants the restaurant owner to remove the Italian word "Ristorante" from the restaurant's name, that it will eventually escalate to other things like: the removal of English literature, TV & Radio Channels and so on.) and cannot seem to vizualise my perception. I'm fine with her opinion that this law is funded so that we can preserve the French language in Quebec, but I told her that I did not agree, that it was rather pointless and will not help into preserving it, especially since this law is rather conformist and it'll end up with the majority of the population of other ethnicies (the province is multi-cultural) getting fed up. I believe that the preservation of a language is up to the population itself.

Also, I believe that the funds should be given to Health Care instead, since we are in serious need. This is something I have also told her. Out of the blues she tells me that other countries has it worse and that 3 girls that were violated in India was sickening. Um... I am aware that, when it comes to health care and fair treatment of women, it is rather alarming in foreign land... but just, what the bloody eff-- did it have to do with the conversation? I seriously did not understand her logic at all and it seems she cannot understand mine either. On other words, it threw me off balance and ended up me being in a bad mood.

My question is this... am I just perceiving subjects in really high detail or am I really exagerating? Or maybe she perceived things on a more global scale? I dunno... I'm rather confused.

Just sounds like typical argument to me. I can't even say it sounds like an AS vs. NT thing. AG

It happens all the time, no matter the subject at hand... I don't know. Maybe I'm just a pessimist by nature or/and a foolish person? Haha~

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, you're exaggerating and getting into confrontations for nothing.

I forgot to ask, can I get a more detailed input? I'd like more than just a "yes" or "no" answer. I hope it's not too demanding.

This is what we debated about, if anyone wants to read:
