people who i know seem to look at autism from a stereotypical point of view and if one dont meet these stereotypes then he or she gets doubted and just classed as just weird.

my husband doesnt know much about autism but he has learned a lot about it since he married me a year ago, and now he loves me and just looks upon me as carrie, not the autism. he seems to completly admire my unique ways.

but his best friend says i cant be autistic because i have low iqs, and also i am very verbal and i have a cute little persenallity ( my husband and his mum always says ) and so im not talking in flat tone of voice or im not geeky or really inteligent or anything. ( i didnot even know what the capital of germany was until last week when my husband told me ).

i was never diagnosed with autism but i am going to get a diagnosis. my mum and my sister self diagnosed me when i was younger but before that thought i was ret*d. i did grew up in the 70s so things like aspergers wasnt heard of back then and not many people got a offical diagnosis for different disorders and things. i was extremely delayed in lot of things, like i was still babbling like a baby when i was 6 then could just about talk when i was 10, like say full sentences and just about be clear enough to understand. to this day i do talk noticbaly slow and people normaly asked if i have a accent and i have to say 'no i have speech impairment or learning difficulty'. some words i have trouble with pronouncing and have to say a few times very slowly to get it right. can be embarasing sometimes. but just because i can cook, drive cars and buses, and interact with people aparently it means i havent got autism.

what do i do and who else have this said to you before? thanks .

I just say I have emotional autism, it shuts them up as they don't know how to attack it.

Also I think it's more to the point.
