Diagnosis with unconvinced parent?

Hi

I have the problem that although I have been advised to seek an assessment by CBT people who have worked with me, my father is not convinced and thinks that I am 'normal'. This is despite often warning me in advance about things as he knows I will freak out due to the change factor!

I live in the UK and know from others on WP that you need a relative or someone who knows you from a child to give information about your behaviours. As well as believing that I don't have it, my father also wasn't around much when I was a child due to his work.

There is no-one else who could give this information about my early years and I was wondering how much the assessors base their diagnosis on this information.

Is it possible to do it without him?

I am getting to the point where, whatever the diagnosis, I need to get something sorted soon as I seem to be burning out quicker than before and could do with any support that they can give me (probably none)

Some clinicians refuse (which I think is more down to their own insecurities) but others don't. It shouldn't hinder an NHS clinician, although I'd advise making it clear from the outset you are lacking this information before you see them.
