I'm looking for the most thorough, comprehensive, and respected test(s) possible that are on-line or at least something available to the general public. I want to have more in my arsenal while I'm in the process of trying to seek a proper diagnosis. I want something that a professional is more likely to take seriously if that's even possible?!

I would also like to get up to speed on terminology. Things like NT (Neural Typical), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder???), Stim, and a whole bunch of others that I saw used on the forum that I'm not readily recalling, but had no idea what they were.

AQ-test

The test in the link is quite a common one people use, created by Simon Baron-Cohen and his team to test the Autism-Spectrum Quotient or AQ, use it as a subtle indicator though, as your current state of mind and interpretation of the questions can influence your results, just as an IQ test result may vary over time.

RAADS-R seems to be quite reliable. I don't think it is available with automatic scoring like the AQ test, but you can score yourself manually at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3134766/.

I did the AQ test. I'm a 35 AQ. There were a couple of questions in regards to being able to tell when people are bored, being able to work out facial expressions etc. that I know if I would have answered these questions when I was younger it would be different. I consciously learned those things.

Being able to work out characters intentions when reading a book isn't too hard. It's usually spelled out for you, and most stories go in predictable patterns.

Also the things about childhood, friends, imagination, etc. I had a really hard time answering as I only had 1 main friend growing up and a few that would come in and out of my life, but were never there that long. I also have a hard time remembering play. I'm good at imagining things if it relates to something I'm interested in.

I don't have kids, was the youngest, and don't play with people's kids as an adult. I don't mind kids that are speaking age, because video games are usually a common interest I have with them, and I don't mind a good Xbox vs. Nintendo vs. Playstation discussion if it's civil.

There is an automatically scoring version of the RAADS-R HERE, along with a few other tests.

Great, thanks! I didn't do that one because of the math. I have trouble with just the basics.

I really have a hard time with "do you focus on details rather than the overall idea." It's such a blanket statement. No idea how to answer that.

Can someone please break down what the hell all this means? I don't get it. What does it tell me about myself?

Your total score: 174 (NT avg score- 83, ASD avg score- 140) This would mean that, statistically, your answers would warrant looking into an ASD diagnosis by a professional.

All of your other scores, other than Language, are in the very high range. So, I would say that, in those areas, again, that would warrant being looked at by a professional.

Hope that, if nothing else, that test score is validating! Of course, these tests are only screening tests, not diagnostic tests--they will give you a good idea of if you have the traits (which, by that test score, I would imagine that you do!) and they will then point you further down the road towards additional evaluation and testing.

Oh ok. Thanks! Is there any further detail that can be broken down from those results? I'm definitely going to try and get the results printed so I can take them with me when I have appointments.

Do psychologists/psychiatrists actually use this test? Are there others besides the ones in that link that are detailed and accurate? I'll do whatever test I can get my hands on.

I can't speak to whether the test is used in practice, but there's a bit more contextual information here in the Journal of Autism and Development Disorders: -> www(dot)ncbi.nlm.nih(dot)gov/pmc/articles/PMC3134766

The authors of the test caution that it must be administered in a clinical setting however and should not be taken from home, etc. Reasonable position, of course. Results in one setting may differ from another, even if the test is basically self-administered in both environments.

Assuming you answered carefully and as objectively as possible, I'd be inclined to think that a score of 174 strongly warrants further investigation into the likelihood of ASD. 0% of the control group (several hundred, I believe) scored above 64 points. Finding a professional with the necessary training can be difficult though unless you have money to burn. I'm on a 1 year wait list...

[EDIT: sorry, spam prevention wouldn't let me post the link, so you'll have to copy-paste and complete manually.]

Edited: Sorry, realized you had already completed the AQ.

You may want to also look up the EQ and the SQ-R, both created (in part) by Baron-Cohen. Here is a link that discusses the connection between these tests and ASD: guava.physics.uiuc(dot)edu/~nigel/REPRINTS/2006/Wheelwright%20%20Predicting%20Autism%20Spectrum%20Quotient%20BrainRes%202006%20(PDF).pdf

http://aspietests.org/raads/questions.p ... cale=en_GB a bit higher scores here.

Odd thing on that test is that the average scores for NTs is higher than the threshold. scores.

^^
That might come from the fact that there are people who assume they are NT, and hit the "NT" button, not knowing that they are on the spectrum. I'd say that the averages posted on that site, since they come from what's been self-reported, are probably somewhat skewed considering it's a certain type of person who will likely be taking that test. (or, how many NT's who have absolutely no suspicions that they might be on the spectrum would seek out and take that test? So, you'll get some of the really socially awkward ones, or ones with other traits.)
